Turn Signal Bulb - Rear

Replace the rear turn signal bulb assembly on a 2015-2020 Ford F-150 by accessing the taillight assembly from inside the bed.

Preparation

1. Park vehicle on level surface and turn off ignition
2. Open tailgate for access to bed interior
3. Identify which side requires bulb replacement (driver or passenger)

Procedure

1. 1

   Access the taillight assembly from bed interior
   From inside the truck bed, locate the taillight assembly access panel on the appropriate side. The panel is located on the rear bed wall near the tailgate opening.

   Remove bed liner or trim panel
   If equipped with a bed liner or trim panel covering the access area, carefully pull it back or remove fasteners to expose the rear of the taillight assembly. Some models have removable plastic access panels secured by push clips.

   Locate taillight assembly mounting nuts
   Identify the taillight assembly mounting nuts visible from the bed interior. Typically there are 2-3 nuts securing the entire assembly. Note their locations but do not remove them unless replacing the entire assembly.

   Access the bulb socket
   Locate the turn signal bulb socket on the back of the taillight assembly. The turn signal socket is typically the amber-colored bulb position. It will have a wiring harness connector attached.

   Remove the bulb socket
   Rotate the bulb socket counterclockwise approximately 1/4 turn and pull it straight out from the taillight housing. The socket should release easily without excessive force.

   Remove the failed bulb
   With the socket removed, push the bulb in slightly and rotate counterclockwise to release it from the socket using the bayonet-style connection. Pull the bulb straight out of the socket.

   Install the new bulb
   Wearing gloves or using a clean cloth, insert the new bulb into the socket. Push in slightly and rotate clockwise until it locks into place. Ensure the bulb is fully seated in the socket.

   Reinstall the bulb socket
   Insert the socket back into the taillight housing, aligning the tabs properly. Rotate clockwise approximately 1/4 turn until it locks into position. Verify the socket is secure and seated fully.

   Test the turn signal
   Turn the ignition to the ON position and activate the turn signal for the replaced side. Verify the bulb illuminates properly and flashes at the correct rate. Also check hazard function.

    Reinstall access panel
    Replace any trim panels or bed liner sections removed during access. Ensure all fasteners are properly secured and the bed liner sits flush.

Reassembly

1. Ensure bulb socket is rotated fully clockwise and locked in place
2. Verify all trim panels and bed liner components are properly reinstalled
3. Close tailgate and verify no tools or parts are left in bed area

Verification

• Activate the turn signal on the repaired side and verify proper illumination and flash rate
• Test hazard lights to confirm both sides flash synchronously
• Visually inspect the exterior taillight to ensure bulb is illuminating with proper amber color
• Verify no error messages appear on the instrument cluster
