Parts

  • HVAC blower motor assembly × 1 — Use OEM specification

Preparation

  1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
  2. Turn ignition off and remove key
  3. Disconnect negative battery cable and wait 2 minutes
  4. Open passenger door fully for easier access
  5. Empty glove box of all contents

Procedure

  1. 1
    Remove glove box
Open the glove box fully. Locate the two damper arms on each side of the glove box. Squeeze the sides of the glove box inward to release the stops from the dashboard. Continue squeezing and pull the glove box down and out to remove it completely from the dashboard opening.
  2. 2
    Disconnect cabin air filter cover
With the glove box removed, locate the cabin air filter cover on the right side of the HVAC housing. Press the release tabs on both sides of the cover and pull it down to remove. Set aside the cabin air filter if present.
  3. 3
    Access blower motor housing
Look into the opening behind where the glove box was mounted. The blower motor is located in the lower right area of the HVAC housing. You should see a large circular housing with an electrical connector attached.
  4. 4
    Disconnect blower motor electrical connector
Locate the electrical connector on the blower motor. Press the locking tab and pull the connector straight off the blower motor. Move the wiring harness aside to provide clearance for motor removal.
  5. 5
    Remove blower motor mounting screws
Using a 7mm socket or nut driver, remove the three screws securing the blower motor to the HVAC housing. The screws are located around the perimeter of the blower motor flange. Support the blower motor with one hand as you remove the final screw to prevent it from falling.

  6. 6
    Remove blower motor assembly
Carefully rotate and pull the blower motor assembly downward and out of the HVAC housing. The motor and fan wheel assembly will come out as one unit. Be careful not to damage the fan blades during removal. Inspect the mounting surface and seal for debris or damage.
  7. 7
    Install new blower motor
Position the new blower motor assembly into the HVAC housing opening, ensuring the mounting holes align properly. Rotate the motor as needed to fit the fan wheel into the housing without interference. Verify the seal is properly seated against the housing.
  8. 8
    Install blower motor mounting screws
Install the three mounting screws by hand first to ensure proper thread engagement. Using a torque wrench and 7mm socket, tighten the screws in a star pattern to 4.0 Nm (3.0 lb-ft). This ensures even sealing and prevents distortion of the housing.

  9. 9
    Reconnect electrical connector
Reconnect the electrical connector to the blower motor, ensuring it clicks into place securely. Gently tug on the connector to verify it is fully locked.
  10. 10
Reinstall cabin air filter and cover
If equipped, reinstall the cabin air filter with the airflow direction arrow pointing toward the blower motor. Reinstall the cabin air filter cover by aligning the tabs and pressing until it clicks into place.
  11. 11
    Reinstall glove box
Position the glove box into the dashboard opening. Squeeze the sides inward and guide it into place. Release the sides to allow the stops to engage with the dashboard. Verify the glove box opens and closes smoothly and that the dampers function properly.
  12. 12
    Reconnect battery and test
Reconnect the negative battery cable. Start the vehicle and turn the HVAC system on. Test all blower motor speeds (1 through 10 on the climate control) to verify proper operation. Listen for any unusual noises and confirm adequate airflow at each speed setting.

Reassembly

  1. Torque all fasteners to specifications using a torque wrench
  2. Ensure all electrical connections are fully seated and locked
  3. Verify glove box operates smoothly and dampers function correctly

Verification

  • Start vehicle and test blower motor at all speed settings
  • Verify airflow is strong and consistent with no unusual noises
  • Check for air leaks around the blower motor housing
  • Confirm climate control responds properly to temperature and fan speed changes
  • Verify no warning lights are present on the instrument cluster
