Parts

  • Sunroof switch assembly × 1 — Use OEM specification

Preparation

  1. Park vehicle on level surface and turn ignition off
  2. Wait at least 2 minutes after disconnecting battery to allow airbag system capacitors to discharge
  3. Ensure sunroof is in the closed position before beginning work

Procedure

  1. 1
    Disconnect battery negative terminal
Open hood and locate the battery in the engine bay. Using a 10mm socket, loosen the battery negative terminal bolt and disconnect the negative cable. Secure the cable away from the battery post.
    Torque spec
    Battery Terminal Bolts6 Nm (4 lb-ft)
  2. 2
    Wait for capacitor discharge
Wait a minimum of 2 minutes to allow the supplemental restraint system (airbag) capacitors to fully discharge before proceeding with work near the overhead console.
  3. 3
    Remove overhead console lens cover
Locate the overhead console above the driver and front passenger seats. Using a panel removal tool, gently pry down the clear or opaque lens cover from the front edge of the console. Work carefully around the perimeter to release the retaining clips. The cover should hinge down from the front.
  4. 4
    Remove console trim screws
With the lens cover lowered or removed, locate the Torx T20 screws securing the overhead console trim (typically 2-3 screws). Remove these screws and set aside. Note their locations for reassembly.
  5. 5
    Lower overhead console assembly
Carefully pull down the overhead console housing to access the rear mounting area. The console will remain tethered by electrical connectors. Support the console with one hand while working to avoid stress on the wiring harnesses.
  6. 6
    Disconnect electrical connectors
Locate the electrical connectors for the map lights, ambient lighting (if equipped), and sunroof switch on the back of the console. Press the release tabs and disconnect each connector. Take note of connector positions and routing for reinstallation.
  7. 7
    Remove sunroof switch from console
Locate the sunroof switch assembly within the overhead console housing. The switch may be secured with small clips or tabs. Carefully press the release tabs or clips and slide or pull the switch assembly out of its mounting position. Note the orientation for proper installation of the new switch.
  8. 8
    Install new sunroof switch
Insert the new sunroof switch assembly into the overhead console housing in the same orientation as the original. Press firmly until the retaining clips or tabs engage and the switch is securely seated. Ensure the switch is flush with the console housing.
  9. 9
    Reconnect electrical connectors
Reconnect all electrical connectors to the overhead console in their original positions, including map lights, ambient lighting (if equipped), and the sunroof switch. Ensure each connector clicks into place and is fully seated.
  10. 10
    Reinstall overhead console
Position the overhead console back into its mounting location in the headliner. Align the rear mounting points first, then carefully push the console up into position. Install the Torx T20 screws and tighten securely, but do not overtighten to avoid cracking the plastic housing.
  11. 11
    Reinstall lens cover
Align the lens cover with the overhead console and press firmly around the perimeter to engage all retaining clips. Ensure the cover is flush and fully seated on all sides.
  12. 12
    Reconnect battery
Return to the engine bay and reconnect the battery negative terminal. Position the cable on the battery post and tighten the terminal bolt to specification using a 10mm socket.
    Torque spec
    Battery Terminal Bolts6 Nm (4 lb-ft)

Reassembly

  1. Ensure all trim clips are fully engaged before testing to avoid rattles
  2. Verify all electrical connectors are firmly seated to prevent intermittent operation
  3. Check that overhead console is secure and does not move when touched

Verification

  • Turn ignition to ON position without starting engine
  • Test sunroof operation using the new switch in all positions: tilt up, tilt down, slide open, and slide closed
  • Verify sunroof responds correctly to each switch command and stops at proper positions
  • Test one-touch open and close functions if equipped
  • Confirm map lights and other overhead console functions still operate normally
  • Check for any error messages or warnings on the instrument cluster related to the sunroof system
