Parts
- Fog light assembly × 1 — Use OEM specification or aftermarket equivalent
- Push pin retainers (if damaged) × 5 — Ford push pin retainers
Preparation
- Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
- Turn ignition off and remove key
- Turn fog light switch to OFF position
- Allow fog lights to cool if recently operated (minimum 15 minutes)
- Turn steering wheel fully to the side opposite the fog light being serviced for better access
Procedure
- 1Remove wheel well liner fastenersLocate the plastic push pin retainers securing the front portion of the wheel well liner. Remove 3-5 push pins from the forward section of the liner using a trim panel removal tool. Pull the liner away from the bumper to create access to the fog light assembly from behind.
- 2Access fog light assemblyReach behind the bumper through the wheel well opening. Locate the fog light assembly housing and the electrical connector on the back of the assembly. Use a work light to illuminate the area if needed.
- 3Disconnect electrical connectorPress the release tab on the fog light electrical connector and pull the connector straight away from the fog light assembly. Allow the connector to hang freely without tension on the wiring.
- 4Remove fog light mounting fastenersLocate the fog light assembly mounting screws or bolts (typically two or three 8mm or 10mm fasteners). Remove all mounting fasteners while supporting the fog light assembly with your other hand to prevent it from falling.
- 5Extract fog light assemblyCarefully pull the fog light assembly forward and out through the bumper opening. Guide it past any mounting tabs or clips. If the assembly does not release easily, check for additional retaining clips or fasteners.
- 6Inspect mounting locationExamine the fog light mounting area in the bumper for damage, cracks, or broken clips. Clean any dirt, debris, or corrosion from the mounting surface and electrical connector area using a clean cloth.
- 7Install new fog light assemblyPosition the new fog light assembly into the bumper opening, ensuring proper orientation with the adjustment tabs or alignment features. Guide the assembly into place carefully, aligning all mounting holes.
- 8Secure mounting fastenersInstall all fog light mounting fasteners and tighten by hand first to ensure proper thread engagement. Tighten fasteners securely in a cross pattern to ensure even seating of the assembly. Do not overtighten plastic-mounted assemblies.
- 9Reconnect electrical connectorPush the electrical connector firmly onto the fog light assembly until you hear or feel a positive click indicating the locking tab has engaged. Gently tug on the connector to verify it is securely attached.
- 10Reinstall wheel well linerPosition the wheel well liner back into its original location, aligning all mounting holes. Install all push pin retainers, ensuring they are fully seated and secure. Replace any damaged retainers with new ones.
Reassembly
- Ensure all push pin retainers are fully seated in the wheel well liner
- Verify no tools or parts were left in the wheel well or bumper area
- Return steering wheel to center position
Verification
- Turn ignition to ON position without starting engine
- Activate fog lights using the switch and verify both fog lights illuminate properly
- Inspect fog light assembly from outside vehicle to ensure it is properly seated and aligned with bumper opening
- Check for proper beam pattern and aim if necessary
- Verify no warning lights are illuminated on the instrument cluster
- Test fog lights with engine running to confirm full functionality
