This procedure bleeds all four brake calipers on a 2021-2024 Ford F-150 3.5L EcoBoost to remove air from the hydraulic system and restore proper brake pedal feel and stopping performance.

⚠️SAFETY-CRITICAL PROCEDURE: Brake system failure can result in loss of braking ability, causing serious injury or death. If you encounter ANY issues during this procedure, do not drive the vehicle until inspected by a qualified technician.
⚠️Never reuse old brake fluid. Contaminated or incorrect brake fluid can cause complete brake system failure.
⚠️ONLY use Motorcraft DOT 4 LV brake fluid or equivalent meeting Ford WSS-M6C65-A2 specification. Other DOT 4 fluids may not be compatible and can damage ABS components.
⚠Brake fluid is extremely corrosive to paint. Immediately wash any spills with water. Wear nitrile gloves and eye protection.
⚠Do not allow the master cylinder reservoir to run dry during bleeding or air will re-enter the system and damage to the ABS pump may occur.

Preparation
- Park vehicle on level surface, place transmission in Park, engage parking brake, and place wheel chocks behind rear wheels
- Verify you have sufficient DOT 4 LV brake fluid (minimum 1 quart, preferably unopened)
- Open master cylinder reservoir cap and inspect fluid level and condition. If fluid is dark or contaminated, consider full system flush
- Using turkey baster or fluid extractor, remove old fluid from master cylinder reservoir to approximately 1/2 full
- Refill reservoir to MAX line with fresh Motorcraft DOT 4 LV brake fluid
- Raise vehicle using floor jack and support securely on jack stands at all four corners
- Remove all four wheels and set aside
Procedure
- 1Prepare bleeding equipmentAttach clear plastic bleeder hose to bleeder wrench or directly to bleeder screw. Place other end of hose into catch bottle with approximately 2 inches of fresh brake fluid in bottom. This prevents air from being sucked back into caliper during bleeding. Keep master cylinder reservoir cap nearby but do not install yet to allow for easier refilling.
- 2Bleed right rear caliperBegin with right rear (passenger side rear). Locate bleeder screw on back of caliper. Clean bleeder screw area with brake cleaner to prevent contamination. Attach bleeder hose. Have assistant pump brake pedal 5-7 times and hold firm pressure. Open bleeder screw 1/2 to 3/4 turn while assistant maintains pedal pressure. Fluid and air bubbles will flow into hose. When pedal reaches floor, close bleeder screw BEFORE assistant releases pedal. Repeat process until fluid flows clear without air bubbles (typically 5-10 repetitions). - Verify master cylinder reservoir is filled to MAX line and cap is installed securely
- Wheel lug nuts must be torqued to 140 Nm (103 lb-ft) in star pattern
- Dispose of used brake fluid properly at recycling center - never pour down drain
Verification
- With engine off, pump brake pedal 5-6 times. Pedal should become firm and hold constant height without sinking
- Start engine and verify brake pedal height does not change significantly (slight drop is normal with power assist)
- Check master cylinder reservoir for proper fluid level - should be at MAX line
- Inspect all four bleeder screws and surrounding areas for any fluid seepage or leaks
- Perform low-speed brake test in safe area (parking lot): at 5-10 mph, apply brakes firmly. Vehicle should stop smoothly without pulling to either side and pedal should feel solid
- If available, perform moderate brake test at 20-25 mph in safe area to verify proper stopping power
- After test drive, recheck master cylinder fluid level and inspect for leaks
- If pedal feel is not firm, if vehicle pulls during braking, or if brake warning light illuminates, do not drive and seek professional service immediately
