Every control module on the 1992-1997 Ford F-350 — where it lives, replacement time, and what it takes to program a replacement. Modules marked dealer / factory tool won't work after a part swap alone — budget for programming.
⚠️ Not programmable; odometer data non-transferable. Electronic cluster became standard by 1992.
Passive Anti-Theft System Module (PATS)1.5 hr R&Rdealer / factory tool +0.5 hrwith PATS option (1996-1997 model years)▸ programming details
📍 Behind instrument panel, integrated with instrument cluster
🔧 NGS Tester
⚠️ PATS introduced late in generation (1996 MY). Requires key programming and cluster-to-EEC pairing via NGS. Not available on all trim levels.
Electronic Engine Control / Powertrain Control Module (EEC-IV / PCM)1.2 hr R&Rno coding▸ programming details
📍 Behind right side of instrument panel, above passenger footwell
⚠️ EEC-IV system; calibration assembly (EEPROM) must match vehicle application. No field programming capability; replacement requires correct pre-calibrated part number. 7.3L Power Stroke diesel (1994.5+) uses dedicated PCM with integrated injection control.
Anti-Lock Brake System Control Module (ABS)1.0 hr R&Rno codingOptional rear-wheel ABS (RABS) package; 4-wheel ABS available 1995+
📍 Frame rail, driver side, forward of rear axle
⚠️ RABS (2-wheel) or 4WABS (4-wheel) depending on option; no programming capability, fault code reading only.
Premium Sound System Module (JBL/Premium Audio)1.0 hr R&Rno codingOptional JBL or premium audio package
📍 Behind instrument panel, center stack area
⚠️ Amplifier module; no programming required.
Air Bag Diagnostic Monitor (ABDM)0.8 hr R&Rno codingWith driver airbag (standard 1992+)
📍 Under center of instrument panel, above transmission tunnel
⚠️ No programming capability; fault code reading only. Crash data not retrievable in this generation.
Electronic Automatic Transmission Control (EEC-AT)no codingE4OD automatic transmission▸ programming details
📍 Integrated within EEC-IV/PCM processor (not separate module)
⚠️ E4OD transmission control handled by PCM; no separate TCM. Calibration embedded in PCM EEPROM.

THE WIRE HARNESS FOR THE POWER LUMBAR FEATURE ON THE SEAT IS UNDERNEATH THE FRONT SEAT CUSHION SUPPORT WIRES. THE SUPPORT WIRES ON THE DRIVER SEAT CAN CONTACT AND DAMAGE THE INSULATION HARNESS RESULTING IN A HIGH RESISTANCE ELECTRICAL SHORT THROUGH THE SUPPORT WIRES.
Consequence: CONSEQUENCE OF DEFECT: OVER HEATING OF THE SUPPORT WIRES COULD RESULT, AND MELTING, SMOKE, OR POSSIBLE IGNTION OF THE SURROUNDING MATERIALS COULD OCCUR.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE SEATS ON THE AFFECTED VEHICLES. IF NO DAMAGE IS FOUND, THE DRIVER SEAT WIRE HARNESS WILL BE COVERED WITH A PROTECTIVE CONVOLUTE TUBING, WRAPPED WITH ELECTRICAL TAPE AND THE HARNESS WILL BE REROUTED. IF DAMAGE IS FOUND, THE WIRE HARNESS WILL BE REPLACED.
