TPMS Relearn

This procedure relearns the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) sensors on a 2021 Ford Transit 3.5L V6 EcoBoost AWD after tire rotation, sensor replacement, or pressure adjustment.

Tools required

Preparation

1. Park vehicle on level ground and engage parking brake
2. Verify all four tires plus spare (if equipped with TPMS sensor) are inflated to manufacturer specifications on door placard
3. Ensure TPMS relearn tool has fresh batteries and is functioning properly
4. Locate TPMS sensor valve stems on all four wheels (and spare if applicable)

Procedure

1. 1

   Access TPMS Training Mode
   Turn ignition to ON position (engine off). Press and release the brake pedal. Turn ignition OFF, then back to ON position three times, ending in ON position. Press and release brake pedal again. Turn ignition OFF. This cycle prepares the system for relearn mode entry.
2. 2

   Enter TPMS Relearn Mode
   Turn ignition to ON position (engine off). Complete the ignition and brake-pedal key-cycle sequence from Step 1 to enter TPMS Training Mode. When training mode is successfully entered, the horn will sound once and the TPMS indicator light will begin flashing to confirm relearn mode is active. Verified detail (The 2021 Ford Transit does not use a menu-driven TPMS relearn through the cluster. Ford's documented TPMS relearn for this platform is the ignition-cycle/brake-pedal sequence which then puts the system directly into training mode (horn sounds), not a Settings menu navigation. Adding a menu step conflicts with the actual Ford procedure.): After completing the ignition and brake pedal cycle, the horn will sound once and the TPMS indicator light will begin flashing to confirm relearn mode is active. If the horn does not sound, repeat the ignition/brake pedal cycle in step 1.

   Activate Left Front Sensor
   Starting with the left front tire, place the TPMS relearn tool at the valve stem where the sensor is mounted. Activate the tool according to manufacturer instructions to trigger the sensor. When successfully activated, the horn will sound once. Wait for the horn confirmation before proceeding to the next wheel. Verified detail (Ford's documented TPMS training sequence begins at the LEFT FRONT and proceeds RIGHT FRONT, RIGHT REAR, LEFT REAR, which matches the procedure order. However, the tool should be held near the valve stem (against the sidewall directly beside the valve stem), which is correct. No sequence error here, but confirm the tool is positioned at the valve stem location, not arbitrary sidewall.): Starting with the left front tire, place the TPMS relearn tool at the valve stem location against the tire sidewall.
4. 4

   Activate Right Front Sensor
   Move to the right front tire. Place the TPMS relearn tool against the tire sidewall near the valve stem and activate. Wait for the single horn confirmation before proceeding.

   Activate Right Rear Sensor
   Move to the right rear tire. Place the TPMS relearn tool against the tire sidewall near the valve stem and activate. Wait for the single horn confirmation before proceeding.
6. 6

   Activate Left Rear Sensor
   Move to the left rear tire. Place the TPMS relearn tool against the tire sidewall near the valve stem and activate. Wait for the single horn confirmation. After the left rear sensor is successfully learned, the horn will sound twice to indicate the relearn procedure is complete.
7. 7

   Exit Relearn Mode
   Turn the ignition OFF after hearing the double horn confirmation. The TPMS warning light should extinguish within 2 minutes of driving, or immediately if using the instrument cluster to verify sensor status.

Reassembly

1. No disassembly is required for this procedure

Verification

• Turn ignition to ON position and verify the TPMS warning light is not illuminated on the instrument cluster
• Navigate to the tire pressure display on the instrument cluster and confirm all four tire pressures are displaying correctly
• Drive vehicle for 2-5 minutes at speeds above 20 mph to allow the system to fully initialize and verify all sensors are communicating
• Verify no TPMS fault codes are present using instrument cluster diagnostics or scan tool if available
