Complete 60,000 mile scheduled maintenance service for 2018-2024 Honda Accord 1.5L Turbo including oil change, filter replacements, fluid inspections, and component checks.

Warnings

⚠️Engine and exhaust components will be extremely hot. Allow engine to cool for at least 1 hour before beginning work.
Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always use jack stands rated for the vehicle weight.
Hot engine oil can cause severe burns. Ensure engine is cool before draining oil.
ℹ️This service interval also requires brake fluid inspection and tire rotation. Brake fluid replacement is recommended every 3 years regardless of mileage.

Fluids

  • Honda Genuine 0W-20 engine oil — 4 qt
  • Windshield washer fluid — 3.5 qt

Preparation

  1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
  2. Allow engine to cool completely if recently driven (minimum 1 hour)
  3. Gather all tools, parts, and fluids before beginning
  4. Verify you have the correct oil filter and air filters for 1.5L turbo engine
  5. Locate hood release and open hood, prop securely

Procedure

  1. 1
    Raise vehicle and remove wheels
Loosen all wheel lug nuts while vehicle is on ground. Raise vehicle with floor jack at designated front and rear jacking points. Support vehicle securely on jack stands at pinch weld locations. Remove front wheels for access to undercarriage components.
  2. 2
    Drain engine oil
Locate oil drain plug on bottom of oil pan at rear. Position drain pan underneath. Using 17mm wrench, loosen drain plug slowly. Allow oil to drain completely for at least 10 minutes. Remove and discard old crush washer from drain plug. Clean drain plug threads and sealing surface on oil pan. Install new crush washer on drain plug.
Oil may still be warm even after cooling period. Wear gloves to protect hands.
  3. 3
    Replace engine oil filter
Locate oil filter on front side of engine block, accessible from underneath. Position drain pan to catch residual oil. Using oil filter wrench, turn filter counterclockwise to remove. Clean filter mounting surface on engine block. Apply thin film of new engine oil to rubber gasket of new filter. Hand-tighten new filter clockwise until gasket contacts mounting surface, then tighten an additional 3/4 turn. Do not use filter wrench for installation.
  4. 4
    Refill engine oil
From top of engine, remove oil filler cap. Using funnel, add 3.5 quarts of Honda Genuine 0W-20 oil initially. Wait 2 minutes for oil to settle. Start engine and run for 30 seconds, then shut off. Wait 3 minutes and check dipstick. Add remaining oil in small increments until level reaches upper mark on dipstick. Total capacity is approximately 4.0 quarts with filter change.
  5. 5
    Replace engine air filter
Locate air filter housing on driver side of engine compartment. Release air box clips securing the cover. Lift cover upward and remove old air filter element. Inspect housing for debris and clean if necessary. Install new air filter with directional arrow (if present) pointing toward throttle body. Reseat housing cover and secure all clips firmly.
  6. 6
    Replace cabin air filter
Open glove box and remove contents. Squeeze sides of glove box inward to release stoppers and lower completely. Locate cabin air filter access door on left side of HVAC housing. Press tabs to release cover. Slide out old cabin air filter, noting directional airflow arrows. Install new filter with arrows pointing in same direction (toward rear of vehicle). Reinstall access cover and reset glove box stops.
  7. 7
    Inspect brake system
With wheels removed, visually inspect brake pads for remaining thickness (minimum 3mm). Check brake rotors for scoring, excessive rust, or heat damage. Inspect brake hoses for cracks or leaking. Check brake fluid level in master cylinder reservoir under hood; fluid should be between MIN and MAX marks. Inspect fluid color (should be clear to light amber; dark fluid indicates contamination).
ℹ️If brake pads are below 4mm, recommend replacement soon. If fluid is dark or contaminated, recommend brake fluid flush service.
  8. 8
    Rotate tires
For FWD Accord, rotate tires in forward cross pattern: front tires move straight to rear on same side, rear tires cross to opposite front positions. Inspect tire tread depth using tread wear indicators (minimum 4/32 inch for safe operation). Check tires for unusual wear patterns, sidewall damage, or embedded objects.
  9. 9
    Reinstall wheels and lower vehicle
Mount wheels onto hubs, ensuring clean contact between wheel and hub face. Start all lug nuts by hand. Using torque wrench, tighten lug nuts to specification in star pattern (tighten opposite nuts sequentially, not adjacent). Raise vehicle slightly to remove jack stands. Lower vehicle completely to ground. Perform final lug nut torque verification in star pattern with vehicle weight on wheels.
  10. 10
    Inspect drive belt and coolant
With hood open, visually inspect serpentine drive belt for cracks, fraying, or glazing. Check belt tension by pressing firmly; deflection should be minimal (belt tensioner is automatic). Check coolant overflow reservoir level; should be between MIN and MAX marks when engine is cold. Inspect coolant color (should be blue; brown indicates contamination). Check for coolant leaks around hoses and connections.
  11. 11
Check all fluid levels and top off
Verify engine oil level one final time on dipstick. Check windshield washer fluid reservoir and fill to MAX line. Verify brake fluid level. Check power steering system indicator light functionality (this model uses electric power steering with no fluid). Inspect transmission fluid level using dipstick if accessible, or verify no leaks visible from underneath.
  12. 12
    Inspect lights and wipers
Test all exterior lights: headlights (low and high beam), turn signals, brake lights, reverse lights, and license plate lights. Replace any burned bulbs. Test windshield wipers on all speeds. Inspect wiper blades for cracking, splitting, or poor contact. Replace if leaving streaks or skipping. Test windshield washer spray pattern and adjust nozzles if needed.
  13. 13
    Set tire pressures
Locate tire pressure specification on driver door jamb sticker (typically 32-35 PSI front and rear for this model). Using tire pressure gauge, check all four tires plus spare. Adjust pressures to specification when tires are cold. Reset tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) using procedure in vehicle menu: Settings > Vehicle > TPMS Calibration.

Reassembly

  1. Ensure oil filler cap is reinstalled and tightened securely
  2. Verify air filter housing cover is properly latched with all clips engaged
  3. Confirm glove box is properly reinstalled with stops engaged
  4. Double-check that no tools or rags are left in engine compartment
  5. Close hood and verify proper latch engagement

Verification

  • Start engine and verify no oil leaks from drain plug or filter after 1 minute of running
  • Check dashboard for any warning lights; address any illuminated indicators
  • Verify oil pressure gauge shows normal reading (if equipped) or oil pressure warning light is off
  • Test drive vehicle for 5-10 minutes and recheck oil level after engine cools
  • Listen for any unusual noises from engine or wheels during test drive
  • After test drive, recheck oil drain plug and filter for leaks with vehicle on level ground
  • Verify all wheels are properly torqued by rechecking lug nuts after first 50 miles of driving
