This procedure covers the replacement of the front air spring (pneumatic suspension strut air bag) on the 2018-2024 Honda Accord 1.5L Turbo.

Warnings

⚠️Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always use jack stands rated for the vehicle weight.
If vehicle is equipped with active air suspension, depressurize the system before beginning work to avoid injury from compressed air.
Suspension components are under tension. Use proper tools and techniques to avoid sudden release of energy.
ℹ️This procedure is for the front air spring assembly. The 2018-2024 Accord 1.5L Turbo typically uses conventional struts; verify your vehicle is equipped with air suspension before proceeding.

Parts

  • Front air spring assembly × 1 — Use OEM Honda specification or equivalent
  • Upper strut mount hardware kit (if damaged) × 1 — Use OEM specification

Preparation

  1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
  2. If equipped with active air suspension, use the vehicle's diagnostic system or suspension control module to depressurize the air spring system
  3. Loosen wheel lug nuts on the side being serviced while vehicle is on ground
  4. Raise vehicle with floor jack at designated jacking point
  5. Secure vehicle on jack stands at manufacturer-specified support points
  6. Remove wheel completely

Procedure

  1. 1
    Disconnect air supply line
Locate the air supply line connected to the air spring assembly. Press the release collar on the quick-disconnect fitting and pull the air line straight out from the air spring. Cap or plug the line to prevent contamination.
  2. 2
    Disconnect electrical connector
If the air spring has an integrated height sensor or pressure sensor, disconnect the electrical connector by pressing the release tab and pulling straight out. Secure the connector away from the work area.
  3. 3
    Remove sway bar link
Locate the sway bar link connection at the strut assembly. Use an Allen key to hold the shaft while loosening the upper nut with a socket. Remove the nut and disconnect the sway bar link from the strut.
    Torque spec
    Sway Bar Link Nuts55 Nm (41 lb-ft)
  4. 4
    Disconnect brake line bracket
Remove any brake line or ABS sensor brackets attached to the strut assembly. Typically secured with one or two bolts. Set brackets and hardware aside for reinstallation.
  5. 5
    Remove strut-to-knuckle bolts
Locate the two bolts securing the bottom of the strut assembly to the steering knuckle. Support the knuckle assembly with your hand or a secondary jack. Remove both bolts completely and carefully separate the strut from the knuckle. You may need to use a pry bar to spread the knuckle mounting area.
    Torque spec
    Strut Bolts109 Nm (81 lb-ft)
  6. 6
    Access strut tower mounting
Open the hood and locate the strut tower in the engine compartment. Remove any plastic covers or trim panels covering the top strut mount nuts. There are typically three nuts securing the strut to the strut tower.
  7. 7
    Remove strut tower nuts
While supporting the air spring assembly from below, remove the three nuts from the top of the strut tower. Once all nuts are removed, carefully lower the air spring assembly out through the wheel well. Guide the air line and any electrical connectors through as you remove the assembly.
    Torque spec
    Strut Tower Nuts50 Nm (37 lb-ft)
  8. 8
    Install new air spring assembly
Guide the new air spring assembly up through the wheel well, routing the air line and electrical connector through first. Align the upper mounting studs with the holes in the strut tower. Hand-thread the three upper nuts to hold the assembly in place, but do not torque yet.
  9. 9
    Torque strut tower nuts
Torque the three strut tower nuts in a star pattern to ensure even seating of the mount. Final torque specification is 50 Nm (37 lb-ft).
    Torque spec
    Strut Tower Nuts50 Nm (37 lb-ft)
  10. 10
    Reconnect strut to knuckle
Align the bottom of the air spring assembly with the steering knuckle. Insert both strut-to-knuckle bolts and hand-thread the nuts. Torque both bolts to 109 Nm (81 lb-ft).
    Torque spec
    Strut Bolts109 Nm (81 lb-ft)
  11. 11
Reinstall brake line bracket and sway bar link
Reattach any brake line or ABS sensor brackets to the strut assembly. Reconnect the sway bar link to the strut, holding the shaft with an Allen key while torquing the nut to 55 Nm (41 lb-ft).
    Torque spec
    Sway Bar Link Nuts55 Nm (41 lb-ft)
  12. 12
    Reconnect air and electrical connections
Reconnect the electrical connector to the height or pressure sensor until it clicks into place. Push the air supply line into the quick-disconnect fitting on the air spring until it seats fully and locks. Tug gently to verify secure connection.
  13. 13
    Reinstall wheel
Mount the wheel onto the hub, hand-threading all lug nuts. Torque the lug nuts in a star pattern to 129 Nm (95 lb-ft).
    Torque spec
    Wheel Lug Nuts129 Nm (95 lb-ft)

Reassembly

  1. Reinstall any strut tower covers or trim panels in the engine compartment
  2. Lower vehicle from jack stands carefully
  3. Perform final torque check on wheel lug nuts with vehicle on ground
  4. If equipped with active air suspension, use the vehicle's control system to repressurize the air spring system and verify proper operation

Verification

  • Start the vehicle and allow the air suspension system to self-level if equipped with active suspension
  • Listen for air leaks around the air line connection and air spring body
  • Check that the vehicle sits at proper ride height on the repaired side, matching the opposite side
  • Perform a test drive at low speed, checking for unusual noises or handling issues
  • Verify that any warning lights related to the suspension system are not illuminated
  • Recheck all fastener torque values after test drive
