Parts
- Climate control module × 1 — Use OEM specification
- Dash panel clips (assorted) × 1 — Replace any broken clips
Preparation
- Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
- Turn ignition off and remove key fob from vehicle
- Disconnect negative battery terminal and wait 3 minutes for airbag system to discharge
- Set steering wheel to center position
- Ensure transmission is in Park position
Procedure
- 1Remove lower dashboard trim panelUsing a panel removal tool, carefully pry out the lower dashboard trim panel below the climate control unit. Start from the bottom edge and work around the perimeter. Release the retaining clips by pulling gently outward. Remove the panel completely and set aside.
- 2Remove center console side trim panelsRemove the left and right side trim panels from the center console area. These snap into place with clips. Use a trim removal tool to release the clips starting from the rear edge of each panel and working forward. Disconnect any electrical connectors for switches if equipped.
- 3Remove climate control bezelLocate and remove the decorative bezel surrounding the climate control module and radio. This bezel is held by clips around the perimeter. Insert a panel tool at the bottom edge and carefully work around releasing each clip. Pull the bezel straight out once all clips are released. No screws secure this panel on 2018-2024 Accord models.
- 4Remove climate control mounting screwsWith the bezel removed, locate the four Phillips-head screws securing the climate control module to the dashboard frame. Remove all four screws completely and retain them for reinstallation. The module will now be loose but still connected by wiring harnesses.Torque specCover Screws10 Nm (8 lb-ft)
- 5Pull module forward and access connectorsCarefully pull the climate control module straight out from the dashboard opening approximately 3-4 inches. Use a flashlight to illuminate the rear of the module. You will see two main electrical connectors and potentially one smaller connector for ambient lighting.
- 6Disconnect electrical connectorsDepress the locking tab on each electrical connector while pulling straight back to disconnect. The main connectors have a gray or white sliding lock that must be pushed toward the module before the tab can be released. Disconnect all connectors and remove the old climate control module completely from the vehicle.
- 7Prepare new climate control moduleUnpack the new climate control module and inspect it for any shipping damage. Verify all connector ports are clean and free of debris. Compare the new module to the old one to confirm correct replacement part.
- 8Connect electrical harnesses to new moduleConnect all electrical harnesses to the new climate control module. Ensure each connector clicks firmly into place and the locking tabs are fully engaged. Slide any secondary locks into their locked positions. Gently tug on each connector to verify secure connection.
- 9Install new climate control moduleCarefully guide the new module into the dashboard opening, ensuring no wires are pinched. Align the mounting screw holes with the dashboard frame. Push the module flush against the frame.Torque specCover Screws10 Nm (8 lb-ft)
- 10Reinstall climate control bezelPosition the climate control bezel over the module and align all clips with their receptacles in the dashboard. Starting at the top, press firmly around the perimeter until all clips snap into place. Ensure the bezel sits flush with no gaps.
Reassembly
- Reinstall center console side trim panels, ensuring all clips engage properly
- Reinstall lower dashboard trim panel by aligning clips and pressing firmly until seated
- Reconnect negative battery terminal
- Inspect all trim panels for proper fitment and alignment
Verification
- Turn ignition to ON position without starting engine
- Verify climate control module illuminates and display is functional
- Test all climate control buttons and knobs for proper response
- Start engine and verify blower motor responds to speed adjustments
- Test temperature control functionality by adjusting hot and cold settings
- Verify mode selection (defrost, vent, floor) operates correctly
- Test AUTO mode if equipped and verify system auto-adjusts
- Check for any error messages or warning lights on the display
- Verify rear climate controls function properly if vehicle is equipped with dual-zone system
