Power Steering Hose - High Pressure

Replace the high-pressure power steering hose on a 2018-2024 Honda Accord 1.5L turbo equipped with hydraulic power steering assist.

• High-pressure power steering hose × 1 — Use OEM specification
• Power steering hose O-rings × 2 — Included with hose or separate OEM set

Preparation

1. Park vehicle on level surface and apply parking brake
2. Place wheel chocks behind rear wheels
3. Turn steering wheel to center position
4. Allow engine to cool if recently operated
5. Raise front of vehicle and support on jack stands at proper jacking points
6. Remove front wheels to improve access
7. Place drain pans under power steering pump and steering rack areas

Procedure

1. 1

   Remove engine cover
   Remove plastic engine cover by pulling upward on cover to release retaining clips. Set aside.

   Remove front splash shield
   Remove plastic fasteners and screws securing the front engine splash shield. Lower shield to access power steering components from below. If equipped, remove driver side fender liner clips for additional access.
   Torque spec

   Cover Screws10 Nm (8 lb-ft)

   Locate high-pressure hose routing
   Trace the high-pressure power steering hose from the pump (mounted on engine) to the steering rack (below engine). Note routing path, bracket locations, and any clips securing the hose. Take photos for reference during installation.

   Disconnect hose at power steering pump
   Position drain pan under pump connection. Using appropriate flare nut wrench, loosen and remove the high-pressure line fitting at the power steering pump. Allow fluid to drain. Remove and discard the O-ring from the fitting.
   ⚠Use flare nut wrench to prevent rounding off the brass fitting. Standard open-end wrenches may damage the fitting.

   Disconnect hose at steering rack
   Reposition drain pan under steering rack connection point. Using flare nut wrench, loosen and remove the high-pressure line fitting at the steering rack inlet. Allow remaining fluid to drain completely. Remove and discard the O-ring from the fitting.

   Remove hose mounting brackets
   Remove bolts or clips securing the high-pressure hose to mounting brackets along its routing path. Note exact bracket positions and clip orientation for reinstallation.

   Remove old hose
   Carefully extract the high-pressure hose from the engine bay, feeding it through its routing path. Inspect removed hose for signs of failure (cracks, bulging, leaks at crimps) to confirm replacement was necessary.

   Clean connection points
   Thoroughly clean the fitting connection points at both the power steering pump and steering rack using shop towels. Remove any old fluid, debris, or remnants of old O-rings. Inspect threads for damage.

   Install new O-rings
   Lubricate new O-rings lightly with clean power steering fluid. Install new O-rings onto both fittings of the new high-pressure hose. Ensure O-rings are properly seated in their grooves without twisting or pinching.
   ⚠Never reuse old O-rings. Always install new O-rings to prevent leaks.

    Route new hose
    Route the new high-pressure hose through the engine bay following the same path as the original. Ensure the hose does not contact sharp edges, hot exhaust components, or moving parts. Verify adequate clearance throughout steering movement range.

    Connect hose to steering rack
    Thread the fitting onto the steering rack inlet by hand to ensure proper thread engagement. Once hand-tight, use flare nut wrench and torque wrench to tighten to specification.

    Connect hose to power steering pump
    Thread the fitting onto the power steering pump outlet by hand until snug. Use flare nut wrench and torque wrench to tighten to specification. Do not overtighten as this can damage the brass fitting.

    Secure hose brackets
    Install mounting bolts or clips to secure the hose to all brackets along its routing path. Ensure hose is properly positioned in each bracket without kinks or excessive tension. Torque mounting bolts to specification.

Reassembly

1. Reinstall front splash shield and secure with all screws and fasteners
2. Reinstall fender liner clips if removed
3. Reinstall front wheels and torque lug nuts to 108 Nm (80 lb-ft) in star pattern
4. Lower vehicle from jack stands
5. Reinstall engine cover
6. Fill power steering reservoir with Honda-approved power steering fluid to proper level
7. Bleed power steering system by turning steering wheel lock-to-lock several times with engine off, then start engine and repeat
8. Check fluid level and add as necessary

Verification

• Start engine and verify no leaks at either connection point while cold
• Turn steering wheel slowly from lock to lock while monitoring for leaks
• Check power steering fluid level and top off if needed
• Test drive vehicle and verify normal power steering operation with no noise or binding
• After test drive, recheck both fittings for any signs of seepage or leaks
• Verify fluid level remains at proper mark after system has reached operating temperature
• Inspect hose routing to confirm no contact with moving or hot components during steering operation
