Speaker - Door

This procedure covers the removal and replacement of the front or rear door speakers on the 2018-2024 Honda Accord 1.5L Turbo. The job involves removing the door panel, disconnecting the speaker, and installing a new speaker.

Preparation

1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
2. Lower all windows completely to prevent glass damage during door panel removal
3. Gather replacement speaker and verify correct fitment for front or rear door application
4. Inspect new speaker for proper connector type matching OEM harness

Procedure

   Remove door handle trim and switch panel
   Using a panel removal tool, carefully pry out the small triangular trim piece at the front edge of the door panel near the mirror. Remove the door handle trim bezel by inserting panel tool behind the trim and releasing clips. Disconnect the power window switch connector by pressing the release tab and pulling straight up to remove the entire switch assembly from the door panel.

   Remove door panel fasteners
   Locate and remove all door panel screws. There is typically one Phillips screw behind the door handle opening and one in the door pull cup area. Remove the screw cover cap if present. On rear doors, there may be an additional screw near the bottom edge. Use appropriate screwdriver or socket to remove all visible fasteners.

   Release door panel clips
   Starting at the bottom rear corner of the door panel, insert panel removal tool between door panel and door frame. Gently pry outward to release the plastic retaining clips around the perimeter. Work your way around the entire panel, releasing clips at bottom, sides, and finally the top edge. Pull the panel straight up and away from the door frame once all clips are released. The panel hooks over the window sill at the top, so lift upward to clear.

   Disconnect door panel electrical connectors
   With door panel partially separated, reach behind to locate remaining electrical connectors. Disconnect the door lock actuator connector, interior door handle cable (if equipped), and any courtesy light connectors. Press release tabs while pulling connectors straight apart. For the door handle cable, rotate the cable end to release from the actuator arm, then slide cable housing out of the retaining bracket.

   Remove moisture barrier access (if applicable)
   Inspect the area around the speaker location. Some speakers are accessible without removing the moisture barrier, while others require peeling back a portion of the plastic vapor barrier. If needed, carefully peel back only the section necessary to access the speaker mounting screws. Do not tear the barrier material.

   Remove speaker mounting fasteners
   Locate the speaker mounting screws (typically 3-4 screws around the speaker perimeter). Remove all speaker mounting screws using a Phillips screwdriver or appropriate socket. Keep screws organized for reinstallation. Gently pull the speaker away from the mounting surface.

   Disconnect speaker electrical connector
   Locate the speaker wiring harness connector on the back of the speaker. Press the connector release tab and pull the connector straight off the speaker terminals. If the connector is tight, gently wiggle while pulling. Remove the old speaker from the door.

   Install new speaker
   Connect the wiring harness to the new speaker, ensuring the connector clicks firmly into place. Verify correct polarity if using aftermarket speaker. Position the new speaker into the mounting location, aligning all screw holes. Insert and hand-tighten all mounting screws in a cross pattern, then final tighten securely. Do not overtighten as this can crack the speaker housing or strip the mounting points.

   Restore moisture barrier and test speaker
   If moisture barrier was disturbed, press it back into position ensuring complete seal around edges. Before fully reinstalling door panel, reconnect battery (if disconnected) and test speaker function through all audio sources and balance settings to verify proper operation and no distortion.

    Reinstall door panel
    Reconnect all door panel electrical connectors including window switch, door lock actuator, and courtesy lights. Reinstall door handle cable into bracket and onto actuator arm. Position door panel over door frame, hooking the top edge over the window sill first. Press firmly around entire perimeter to seat all retaining clips. Reinstall all door panel screws and tighten securely. Snap switch panel and trim pieces back into position.

Reassembly

1. Verify all door panel clips are fully seated by inspecting for gaps between panel and door frame
2. Test all door panel switches, locks, and window operation to confirm proper reconnection
3. Verify door handle operates smoothly and cable is properly connected
4. Check that door panel does not rattle or have loose sections when door is closed

Verification

• Test speaker operation at low, medium, and high volumes to verify no distortion or buzzing
• Check audio balance by fading sound to the replaced speaker location only
• Verify no rattles from door panel or speaker when playing bass-heavy audio
• Confirm all door functions (windows, locks, handles) operate normally after reassembly
• Inspect door panel fitment with door closed to ensure uniform gaps and proper alignment
