Sunroof Switch

This procedure covers the removal and replacement of the sunroof switch on a 2018-2024 Honda Accord with 1.5L turbo engine, requiring removal of the overhead console trim.

Preparation

1. Park vehicle on level surface and turn ignition off
2. Disconnect the negative battery terminal and wait at least 3 minutes for airbag system capacitor discharge
3. Ensure sunroof is in the fully closed position
4. Gather all tools and parts before beginning work

Procedure

1. 1

   Remove overhead console front section
   Using a trim panel removal tool, carefully pry down the front section of the overhead console near the windshield. Start at the rear edge of the front section and work forward. There are typically 4-6 clips holding this section. Pull gently downward once clips are released.

   Disconnect map light connectors
   Locate the electrical connectors for the map lights and dome light in the overhead console. Press the release tabs and disconnect each connector. Support the console trim as you work to prevent stress on remaining clips.

   Remove overhead console rear section
   Locate and remove the Phillips screws securing the rear overhead console section (typically 2 screws near the sunroof switch area). Gently pull down the rear section of the overhead console. This section contains the sunroof switch and sunglass holder.
   ⚠The sunroof control wiring harness is still connected. Do not pull the console more than 4-6 inches down to avoid wire damage.

   Disconnect sunroof switch connector
   Locate the sunroof switch electrical connector on the back of the switch assembly. Press the locking tab on the connector and pull straight out to disconnect. Note the connector orientation for reinstallation.

   Remove sunroof switch assembly
   The sunroof switch is held in place by 2-4 clips or small tabs on the overhead console housing. Using a small flathead screwdriver or trim tool, carefully release the tabs while gently pushing the switch out from the front side. Remove the switch assembly from the console.

   Install new sunroof switch
   Position the new sunroof switch assembly into the overhead console opening. Ensure proper orientation with the open/tilt icons facing the correct direction. Press firmly until all mounting tabs click into place. Verify the switch is secure and sits flush with the console surface.

   Reconnect electrical connector
   Connect the sunroof switch electrical connector to the back of the new switch. Push firmly until you hear and feel the locking tab click into place. Gently tug the connector to verify it is fully seated.

   Reinstall overhead console
   Position the rear overhead console section back into place. Install the Phillips screws and tighten securely but do not overtighten plastic threads. Reconnect the map light and dome light electrical connectors. Align the front console section and press upward firmly until all clips engage with audible clicks.

   Reconnect battery and initialize system
   Reconnect the negative battery terminal. Turn the ignition to ON position (engine off). The sunroof switch should illuminate. If the sunroof operation is erratic, perform the initialization procedure: close the sunroof completely, then press and hold the close button for 5 seconds after it reaches fully closed position.
   Torque spec

   Battery Terminal Bolts6 Nm (4 lb-ft)

Reassembly

1. Ensure all trim clips are properly seated and overhead console sections are flush with headliner
2. Verify no gaps exist around the console trim that could indicate missing or unengaged clips
3. Confirm all map lights and dome light function correctly after reassembly

Verification

• Turn ignition to ON position and verify sunroof switch illuminates
• Test sunroof tilt function by pressing rear of switch - sunroof should tilt open smoothly
• Test sunroof slide function by pressing front of switch - sunroof should open and close fully without binding
• Verify auto-close function works by pressing and releasing close button briefly - sunroof should close completely on its own
• Test obstacle detection by closing sunroof and blocking path with hand - sunroof should reverse direction
• Confirm no warning lights appear on instrument cluster related to sunroof operation
