Parts

  • Front sway bar bushing set × 1 — Use OEM specification - Honda part 51306-TVA-A01
  • Sway bar bracket bolts (if corroded) × 4 — Use OEM specification

Preparation

  1. Park vehicle on level surface and apply parking brake
  2. Chock rear wheels securely
  3. Raise front of vehicle and support on jack stands placed on manufacturer-designated lift points
  4. Remove both front wheels for better access
  5. Spray sway bar bracket bolts with penetrating oil if vehicle has been exposed to salt or corrosion

Procedure

  1. 1
    Locate sway bar brackets
The front sway bar runs laterally across the front subframe. Identify the two sway bar bushing brackets mounted to the subframe, one on each side of center. Each bracket is secured with two bolts.
  2. 2
Remove driver side sway bar bracket
Using a 14mm socket, remove the two bolts securing the driver side sway bar bracket to the subframe. Remove the bracket and old bushing from the sway bar. Note the orientation of the bushing split.
  3. 3
    Clean sway bar mounting surface
Use a wire brush to clean the sway bar surface where the bushing mounts. Remove any rust, dirt, or old rubber residue. This ensures proper fitment and prevents premature wear of the new bushing.
  4. 4
    Install new driver side bushing
Position the new sway bar bushing around the sway bar with the split facing toward the rear of the vehicle. The bushing should fit snugly in the groove on the sway bar. Place the bracket over the bushing.
  5. 5
    Secure driver side bracket
Thread both bracket bolts by hand first to ensure proper alignment. Using a torque wrench and 14mm socket, tighten the sway bar bracket bolts in a cross pattern to the specified torque.

  6. 6
Remove passenger side sway bar bracket
Using a 14mm socket, remove the two bolts securing the passenger side sway bar bracket to the subframe. Remove the bracket and old bushing from the sway bar.
  7. 7
    Clean and prepare passenger side
Use a wire brush to clean the sway bar surface where the passenger side bushing mounts. Remove all debris and old rubber material.
  8. 8
    Install new passenger side bushing
Position the new sway bar bushing around the sway bar with the split facing toward the rear of the vehicle. Ensure it seats properly in the sway bar groove. Place the bracket over the bushing.
  9. 9
    Secure passenger side bracket
Thread both bracket bolts by hand to verify alignment. Using a torque wrench and 14mm socket, tighten the sway bar bracket bolts in a cross pattern to the specified torque.
    Torque spec
    Sway Bar Bracket Bolts45 Nm (33 lb-ft)
  10. 10
    Verify installation and reinstall wheels
Visually confirm both bushings are seated properly with splits facing rearward and brackets are secure. Reinstall both front wheels and hand-tighten lug nuts. Lower vehicle to ground and torque lug nuts to 108 Nm (80 lb-ft) in a star pattern.

Reassembly

  1. Ensure both sway bar bushing splits face toward the rear of the vehicle
  2. Verify all bracket bolts are torqued to specification
  3. Check that bushings are fully seated in their grooves on the sway bar

Verification

  • Test drive vehicle over small bumps at low speed and listen for clunking noises - properly installed bushings should eliminate noise
  • Perform visual inspection underneath vehicle to confirm brackets are secure and bushings have not shifted
  • Check for improved steering response and reduced body roll during cornering
