This procedure covers removal and replacement of the front power window motor (driver or passenger side) on a 2018-2024 Honda Accord with 1.5L turbo engine.

Warnings

Do not disconnect battery on this procedure - window motor must be indexed to regulator in the correct position during installation.
Support door panel carefully when detached - damage to wire harnesses or clips can occur if panel is dropped or twisted.
ℹ️Some door panel clips will break during removal - have replacement clips available before starting.

Parts

  • Front power window motor (driver or passenger) × 1 — Use OEM specification
  • Door panel clips (replacement set) × 1 — Honda genuine door clips

Preparation

  1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
  2. Roll the affected window to the fully UP position before beginning work
  3. Prepare a clean, padded surface to set the door panel on after removal
  4. Gather all tools and replacement parts before starting

Procedure

  1. 1
    Remove door panel fasteners
Remove the Phillips screw located inside the door pull handle recess. Remove the screw cover cap behind the interior door handle and remove the Phillips screw beneath it. Use the trim tool to carefully pry out the small triangular trim panel at the front upper corner of the door panel (mirror mount area).
  2. 2
    Release door panel clips
Starting at the bottom rear corner, use the trim removal tool to gently pry the door panel away from the door frame. Work your way around the perimeter, releasing the push-pin clips that secure the panel. There are typically 8-10 clips around the door panel edge. Pull outward gently but firmly once clips are released.
  3. 3
    Disconnect electrical connectors
With the door panel pulled away approximately 2-3 inches, reach behind and disconnect all electrical connectors: power window switch assembly, power mirror switch (if equipped), door lock switch, and tweeter speaker connector (if equipped). Press the locking tabs and pull connectors straight apart. Lift the door panel up and away from the door frame to fully remove it.
  4. 4
    Remove vapor barrier access
Carefully peel back the plastic vapor barrier sheet only in the area where the window motor is located (lower rear section of door). The barrier is held with adhesive - peel slowly to avoid tearing. You only need to expose the window regulator/motor assembly area, not remove the entire barrier.
  5. 5
    Disconnect window motor electrical connector
Locate the window motor electrical connector inside the door cavity. Press the locking tab and disconnect the connector from the motor. The motor is located at the bottom rear of the door, integrated with the window regulator assembly.
  6. 6
    Remove window motor mounting bolts
Using a 10mm socket, remove the three mounting bolts that secure the window motor to the regulator assembly. Support the motor as you remove the final bolt to prevent it from falling. The motor is attached to the regulator mechanism and must be carefully separated.

  7. 7
    Separate motor from regulator
Carefully pull the window motor away from the regulator drive mechanism. The motor gear engages with the regulator - pull straight out to disengage. Remove the motor through the access hole in the door inner panel. Note the orientation of the motor for installation of the replacement unit.
  8. 8
    Install new window motor
Position the new window motor and align it with the regulator drive mechanism. Ensure the motor gear properly engages with the regulator teeth. Push the motor fully into position so the mounting holes align. Start all three mounting bolts by hand before tightening any of them.
  9. 9
    Torque motor mounting bolts
Using a torque wrench, tighten the three window motor mounting bolts to specification in a cross pattern. Ensure the motor is seated flush against the regulator mounting surface before final torquing.

  10. 10
    Reconnect and test motor operation
Reconnect the electrical connector to the window motor. Without reinstalling the door panel, turn the ignition to ON position (engine does not need to run). Test window operation through full up and down travel several times to ensure proper motor function and smooth regulator movement. Listen for any unusual noises.
  11. 11
    Reinstall vapor barrier
Press the vapor barrier sheet back into place, ensuring all adhesive areas make good contact with the door frame. Smooth out any wrinkles or air pockets. The barrier must seal properly to prevent moisture and wind noise intrusion.
  12. 12
    Reinstall door panel
Reconnect all electrical connectors behind the door panel: window switch, mirror switch, lock switch, and speaker. Guide the door panel onto the door frame, hooking the top edge over the window sill first. Push firmly around the perimeter to engage all push-pin clips. Install and tighten all screws removed during disassembly. Reinstall trim pieces and covers.

Reassembly

  1. Verify all electrical connectors are fully seated and locked
  2. Ensure all door panel clips are properly engaged before driving
  3. Replace any broken door panel clips with new genuine Honda clips
  4. Check that no wire harnesses are pinched between door panel and frame

Verification

  • Test window operation through complete up and down cycles multiple times
  • Verify window operates smoothly without binding or unusual noise
  • Confirm window auto-up and auto-down functions work properly (if equipped)
  • Check that all door panel switches and controls function correctly
  • Inspect door panel fit and finish - verify no gaps or misalignment
  • Perform window initialization procedure if needed: with ignition ON, lower window fully and hold switch down for 2 seconds, then raise window fully and hold switch up for 2 seconds
