This procedure covers the removal and replacement of the front sway bar (stabilizer bar) on a 2016-2021 Honda Civic with the 1.5L turbo engine, including disconnecting sway bar links and removing mounting brackets.

Preparation
- Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
- Chock rear wheels securely
- Loosen front wheel lug nuts while vehicle is on ground
- Raise front of vehicle and support securely on jack stands at designated lift points
- Remove both front wheels completely
Procedure
- 1Access sway bar linksFrom underneath the vehicle, locate the sway bar links connecting the sway bar ends to the lower control arms on both sides. The links are vertical components with ball joints at each end.
- 2Disconnect passenger side sway bar linkInsert a 6mm Allen key into the top of the sway bar link shaft to prevent it from spinning. - 6Clean mounting surfacesUse a wire brush to clean the sway bar mounting areas on the subframe where the brackets attach. Remove any rust, dirt, or old rubber residue to ensure proper seating of new components.
- 7Install bushings on new sway barSlide the new or reused bushings onto the replacement sway bar, positioning them in the marked locations where they will mate with the mounting brackets. Ensure the bushing split faces the correct direction (typically toward the rear of the vehicle).
- 8Install sway bar into positionManeuver the sway bar up into position under the vehicle, aligning the bushings with the subframe mounting locations. The sway bar ends should be positioned near the control arm link attachment points on both sides.
- 9Install mounting brackets and torque boltsPlace the mounting brackets over the bushings and start all four bracket bolts by hand. Ensure bushings are properly seated in the brackets. Reassembly
- Double-check that all sway bar bracket bolts and link nuts are torqued to specification
- Verify that no brake lines, ABS wires, or other components are in contact with or pinched by the sway bar
- Ensure bushings are properly seated and brackets are flush against subframe
Verification
- Test drive vehicle at low speed and verify there are no clunking or rattling noises from the front suspension
- Perform gentle turns in both directions to confirm sway bar is functioning properly
- Re-inspect all fasteners after 50-100 miles of driving to ensure nothing has loosened
