Antenna

This procedure covers removal and replacement of the roof-mounted AM/FM antenna mast and base assembly on 2012-2018 Jeep Wrangler JK models.

• Antenna base gasket × 1 — Use OEM specification

Preparation

1. Park vehicle on level surface and set parking brake
2. Turn ignition off and remove key
3. Gather tools and replacement antenna assembly

Procedure

1. 1

   Access antenna mounting area
   Open driver door and locate the interior grab handle on the driver side roll bar. The antenna cable routing passes through this area on most models. If hardtop is installed, you may need to access from exterior only.

   Remove antenna mast
   From outside the vehicle, unthread the antenna mast by turning counterclockwise. The mast separates from the base assembly. Set aside if reusing.

   Access antenna base mounting
   If equipped with hardtop, access is from exterior only. The antenna base is secured by a single mounting nut accessible from underneath the roof panel. For soft top models, you may access from inside by removing the headliner panel near the antenna location using trim removal tools.

   Disconnect antenna cable
   From inside the vehicle, locate the coaxial antenna cable connection at the base of the antenna assembly. Disconnect the cable by pulling straight down on the connector. Note the routing for reinstallation.

   Remove antenna base mounting nut
   Using a 13mm wrench or socket, remove the mounting nut securing the antenna base to the roof panel. Support the antenna from above while removing the nut to prevent dropping the assembly.

   Remove antenna base assembly
   Carefully pull the antenna base assembly upward through the roof opening. Remove the old gasket from the roof surface and clean the mounting area thoroughly to ensure proper seal.

   Install new antenna base
   Position the new gasket on the underside of the new antenna base. Insert the antenna base through the roof opening from above, ensuring the cable fitting faces the interior. Align the mounting stud with the hole.

   Secure antenna base
   From inside the vehicle, thread the mounting nut onto the antenna base stud. Hand-tighten first to ensure proper alignment, then torque to specification using a torque wrench.
   Torque spec

   Mounting Bolts39 Nm (29 lb-ft)

   Reconnect antenna cable
   Connect the coaxial antenna cable to the base fitting by pushing firmly until it seats completely. Ensure the connection is secure and route the cable following the original path.
10. 10

    Install antenna mast
    Thread the antenna mast onto the base assembly by turning clockwise. Tighten by hand until snug. Do not overtighten as this can damage the plastic base threads.

Reassembly

1. If headliner or trim panels were removed, reinstall them ensuring all clips are properly seated
2. Verify antenna mast is vertical and secure

Verification

• Turn ignition to ACC or ON position
• Test AM and FM radio reception on multiple stations to confirm antenna is functioning properly
• Inspect antenna base area for water-tight seal around gasket
• Check that antenna mast is firmly attached and does not wobble
