ETS/ECM Communication Malfunction

What this code means

The PCM has detected a critical communication failure between the Electronic Throttle System controller and the Engine Control Module. This loss of communication prevents proper throttle control and forces an immediate failsafe.

Symptoms

• Check Engine Light
• Engine will not accelerate
• Idle only operation
• ETC warning light
• Vehicle may stall

Common causes

• Critical CAN bus failure
• PCM internal failure
• ETC module failure
• Wiring harness severe damage
• Main connector corrosion or disconnection

Diagnostic steps

1. Check all main PCM and ETC connectors immediately
2. Inspect CAN bus wiring for severe damage
3. Test PCM power and ground circuits
4. Attempt scan tool communication with all modules
5. Check for water damage or rodent damage to wiring
