Oil Change

Replace engine oil and oil filter on 2017 Maserati Levante 3.0L V6 Twin Turbo, using Selenia Racing 10W-60 synthetic oil and new crush washer.

Preparation

1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
2. Place wheel chocks behind rear wheels
3. Allow engine to cool for at least 30 minutes if recently operated
4. Raise front of vehicle using jack and secure with jack stands at manufacturer-specified lift points
5. Remove engine undertray/splash shield if equipped (multiple fasteners)
6. Verify you have correct oil filter type (cartridge or spin-on) for your specific vehicle

Procedure

1. 1

   Locate and access oil drain plug
   From underneath the vehicle, locate the oil drain plug on the oil pan toward the rear of the engine. Clean area around drain plug with shop towel to prevent contamination during removal.

   Drain engine oil
   Position drain pan directly beneath oil drain plug. Using 17mm socket or wrench, loosen drain plug slowly. Once loose, quickly remove plug by hand while avoiding hot oil stream. Allow oil to drain completely for at least 10 minutes.
   ⚠Oil may be hot and under slight pressure. Keep hands clear of initial oil stream.

   Inspect and replace drain plug washer
   Remove old crush washer from drain plug and discard. Wipe drain plug threads clean with shop towel. Install new crush washer onto drain plug, ensuring it seats properly against the plug shoulder.
   Torque spec

   Oil Drain Plug35 Nm (26 lb-ft)

   Reinstall oil drain plug
   Thread drain plug by hand into oil pan to avoid cross-threading. Once finger-tight, use torque wrench and 17mm socket to tighten drain plug to 35 Nm (26 lb-ft). Do not overtighten as this may strip aluminum oil pan threads.

   Locate oil filter
   Locate oil filter housing or spin-on filter on the engine block. Position drain pan beneath filter area as residual oil will drain during removal. Clean exterior of filter housing or spin-on filter with shop towel.

   Remove old oil filter
   For cartridge type: Use appropriate socket or wrench to loosen oil filter housing cap counterclockwise and remove cartridge element. For spin-on type: Use oil filter wrench to turn filter counterclockwise until loose, then remove by hand. Allow residual oil to drain into pan.
   ℹ️Cartridge filters may contain 1-2 quarts of oil within the housing. Have drain pan ready.

   Prepare new oil filter
   For cartridge type: Remove new filter from packaging and inspect new O-ring on housing cap. Apply thin film of clean engine oil to O-ring. For spin-on type: Apply thin film of clean engine oil to rubber gasket on new filter.

   Install new oil filter
   For cartridge type: Insert new filter cartridge into housing, ensuring it seats properly. Install housing cap with lubricated O-ring and tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft). For spin-on type: Thread new filter onto mounting boss by hand until gasket contacts base, then turn an additional 3/4 turn. Final torque should be 20 Nm (15 lb-ft).

   Fill engine with new oil
   Lower vehicle to ground. Open hood and locate oil filler cap on top of engine. Insert funnel and add 5 quarts of Selenia Racing 10W-60 oil initially. Wait 2 minutes for oil to settle, then add remaining oil in 0.25 quart increments while checking dipstick.

    Check oil level
    Remove dipstick, wipe clean, reinsert fully, and remove again to check level. Oil level should be between MIN and MAX marks on dipstick. Add oil in small increments if needed to reach proper level. Do not overfill.

    Start engine and verify operation
    Replace oil filler cap securely. Start engine and allow to idle for 2-3 minutes. Monitor instrument cluster for oil pressure warning light (should extinguish within 5 seconds). Listen for unusual noises and watch for leaks underneath vehicle.
    ⚠If oil pressure warning light remains illuminated for more than 10 seconds, shut off engine immediately and investigate cause.

    Final inspection and cleanup
    Shut off engine and wait 5 minutes for oil to settle. Recheck oil level with dipstick and adjust if necessary. Inspect drain plug and filter areas for any signs of leaks. Reinstall engine undertray/splash shield if removed. Properly dispose of used oil and filter at recycling facility.

Reassembly

1. Ensure oil drain plug crush washer is new and properly installed
2. Verify oil filter housing cap or spin-on filter is torqued to specification
3. Reinstall engine undertray/splash shield with all fasteners
4. Confirm oil level is between MIN and MAX marks after engine has run

Verification

• Oil pressure warning light extinguishes within 5 seconds of engine start
• No oil leaks visible at drain plug or filter after test run
• Oil level reads between MIN and MAX on dipstick when checked on level ground with engine off for 5 minutes
• Engine runs smoothly without unusual noises or vibrations
• Service indicator reset if equipped with oil life monitoring system
