Power Seat Motor

Remove and replace the power seat motor on the driver or passenger seat of a 2017 Maserati Levante, restoring full power seat functionality.

Preparation

1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake

Procedure

   Remove Seat Track Covers
   Use trim removal tools to carefully pry up the plastic covers on both seat tracks. These covers snap into place and protect the seat rail mechanisms. Start at the rear and work forward, releasing clips without breaking them. Set covers aside in a safe location.

   Locate all electrical connectors under the seat. The Levante power seat typically has 3-5 connectors depending on options (seat heater, lumbar, memory module). Press the release tabs and disconnect each connector. Note the large main power connector with gray locking tab requires pressing tab while pulling connector straight back.

   Using a 13mm socket, remove the four seat mounting bolts (two front, two rear) that secure the seat tracks to the floor. The rear bolts may require moving the seat forward for access. Support the seat weight as you remove the final bolt. With an assistant, carefully lift the seat assembly out of the vehicle and place on a clean protected work surface.

   Position Seat for Motor Access
   Place the seat upside down on a padded surface or suspended between two work benches to access the underside. The seat motor is located on the bottom of the seat frame, typically on the outboard side for horizontal adjustment or center for vertical/tilt adjustment. Identify which motor requires replacement based on the failed function.

   Disconnect Motor Wiring
   Locate the power seat motor connector. This is typically a 2-pin or 3-pin connector with a locking tab. Press the release tab and disconnect the motor wiring. If the motor has a separate ground wire, note its location and remove the ground strap bolt using a 10mm socket. Clean the ground contact surface if corroded.

   Remove Motor Mounting Hardware
   The seat motor is secured with 3-4 bracket bolts (typically Torx T30 or 10mm hex heads). Remove these bolts while supporting the motor weight. Note the motor orientation and any alignment marks or pins. On some motors, you may need to remove a plastic gear cover first by removing cover screws.

   Remove Motor from Drive Cable
   Carefully disengage the motor drive gear from the flexible drive cable or worm gear mechanism. This may require rotating the motor slightly while pulling away from the mounting bracket. Some motors have a snap clip that must be released. Avoid damaging the drive cable housing or bending the cable.

   Inspect Drive Mechanism
   With the motor removed, inspect the drive cable, gears, and mounting bracket for wear, damage, or debris. Check that the drive cable moves freely and is not kinked. Clean any old grease and apply fresh white lithium grease to gear teeth if needed. Verify that the problem was the motor and not a mechanical binding issue.

   Position the new motor to the drive mechanism, aligning the drive gear with the cable or worm gear. Ensure proper engagement before securing. Install the motor into the mounting bracket, ensuring any alignment pins or tabs are properly seated. Thread in all bracket bolts finger-tight before torquing.

    Secure Motor and Reconnect Wiring
    Torque the motor bracket bolts to specification in a cross pattern to ensure even mounting pressure. Reconnect the motor electrical connector, ensuring it clicks fully into place. If equipped, reinstall the ground strap bolt, ensuring the contact surface is clean and torque to specification. Reinstall any covers removed during disassembly.

    Reinstall Seat Assembly
    With an assistant, carefully lift the seat assembly and position it over the floor mounting points. Align all four mounting holes and thread in the mounting bolts finger-tight. Torque all four seat mounting bolts to specification in a cross pattern to ensure even loading and prevent squeaks or movement.

    Reconnect Electrical Connections
    Reconnect all seat electrical connectors in reverse order of removal, using your reference photos. Ensure each connector locks properly with an audible click. Verify no wires are pinched or routed where they could be damaged by seat movement. Reinstall the seat track covers, pressing firmly to engage all clips.

    Reconnect Battery and Test
    Reconnect the battery negative terminal and torque the battery terminal bolt to specification. Do not overtighten as this can damage the terminal. Turn ignition to ON position (engine off). Test all seat functions including the newly replaced motor. Check for proper operation through full range of motion and verify no abnormal noises.

Reassembly

1. Ensure all seat mounting bolts are torqued to 35 Nm (26 lb-ft) in a cross pattern

4. Check that no wires or cables are pinched or in contact with moving components

Verification

• Test all power seat functions through full range of motion in both directions
• Listen for smooth, consistent motor operation without grinding or binding
• Verify seat position memory functions correctly if equipped
• Confirm no warning lights on instrument cluster related to seat or airbag systems
• Check that seat is solidly mounted with no movement or rattles when occupied
• Verify seat heater and other accessory functions still operate if equipped
