Radiator Hose - Upper

Remove and replace the upper radiator hose on a 2017 Maserati Levante 3.0L V6 Twin Turbo, including coolant drainage and refill.

Preparation

1. Ensure engine is completely cold to the touch before beginning work
2. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
3. Place drain pan under radiator drain petcock location
4. Remove engine cover by pulling upward on four retention points

Procedure

1. 1

   Drain cooling system
   Slowly turn the coolant reservoir cap counterclockwise to release any residual pressure, then remove cap completely. Locate the radiator drain petcock on the driver side lower corner of radiator. Open petcock and drain coolant into collection pan. Allow system to drain completely for approximately 10 minutes.

   Remove engine undershield access panels
   Remove plastic fasteners and screws securing the front portion of the engine undershield to access lower radiator area. This provides clearance for coolant drainage and lower hose connection access if needed.

   Disconnect upper hose from thermostat housing
   Locate the upper radiator hose connection at the engine thermostat housing on the front of the engine. Using hose clamp pliers or flat blade screwdriver, loosen the hose clamp at the thermostat housing. Slide clamp back along hose away from connection point. Twist hose gently to break seal, then pull off connection fitting.
   ⚠Residual coolant will drain from hose and housing. Keep drain pan positioned to catch spillage.

   Disconnect upper hose from radiator
   Trace upper radiator hose to its connection at the top of the radiator assembly. Loosen the hose clamp at the radiator inlet neck using appropriate tool. Slide clamp back along hose. Twist hose to break seal and pull off radiator inlet neck fitting.

   Remove upper radiator hose
   Carefully work the upper radiator hose out of the engine bay, noting its routing path around engine components, wiring harnesses, and support brackets. Take photos if needed to reference correct routing for new hose installation.

   Inspect connection points
   Clean the thermostat housing outlet and radiator inlet neck with a shop rag. Inspect both connection points for cracks, corrosion, or damage. Check condition of existing hose clamps for wear or deformation and replace if necessary.

   Install new upper radiator hose
   Route new upper radiator hose through engine bay following the same path as original hose. Ensure hose does not contact sharp edges or moving components. Position new hose clamps on each end of hose before making connections.

   Connect hose to thermostat housing
   Push upper radiator hose firmly onto thermostat housing outlet until it seats completely against the connection ridge. Slide hose clamp into position over the connection area (approximately 1/2 inch from hose end). Tighten clamp to specification using torque wrench.

   Connect hose to radiator
   Push opposite end of upper radiator hose firmly onto radiator inlet neck until fully seated against connection ridge. Position and tighten hose clamp to specification.

    Close drain petcock and reinstall panels
    Hand tighten radiator drain petcock to specification. Reinstall engine undershield access panels and secure with fasteners and screws.

    Refill cooling system
    Using funnel, pour Maserati OAT coolant into coolant reservoir until level reaches the MAX cold fill line. Start engine and allow to idle with heater set to maximum temperature. Monitor coolant level and add coolant as system burps air. Continue until coolant level stabilizes and upper radiator hose becomes hot to touch, indicating thermostat has opened.
    ⚠Monitor engine temperature gauge during this process. Do not allow engine to overheat. If temperature approaches red zone, shut off engine immediately and investigate.

    Bleed air and complete fill
    With engine at operating temperature, allow to idle for 5 minutes to ensure all air pockets are purged. Shut off engine and allow to cool for 30 minutes. Recheck coolant level when cold and top off to MAX line if needed. Install coolant reservoir cap securely.

Reassembly

1. Reinstall engine cover by aligning four retention points and pressing down firmly until all clips engage
2. Wipe down any coolant spills from engine components and underbody
3. Properly dispose of old radiator hose and drained coolant at recycling facility

Verification

• Start engine and visually inspect both hose connections for coolant leaks while engine warms up
• Check coolant level after first drive cycle and top off if necessary
• Monitor engine temperature gauge during first several drive cycles to ensure normal operating temperature is maintained
• After 50-100 miles, recheck hose clamp tightness and coolant level
• Verify no coolant odor in cabin or visible steam from engine bay
