Power Window Motor - Rear

This procedure covers the removal and replacement of the rear power window motor on a 2017 Maserati Levante, requiring removal of the interior door panel and water barrier to access the window regulator assembly.

Preparation

1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
2. Disconnect negative battery terminal and wait 2 minutes for system capacitor discharge
3. Lower rear window to approximately mid-travel position before disconnecting battery
4. Protect exterior paint near door with masking tape if needed
5. Prepare clean workspace for door panel storage

Procedure

   Remove Door Panel Fasteners
   Remove the T25 Torx screw hidden under the door pull handle cover. Carefully pry up the small trim cover behind the interior door handle to access another T25 screw. Remove all visible screws securing the door panel perimeter. If applicable, remove the window switch module by carefully prying it up from the armrest and disconnecting the electrical connector.

   Using trim panel removal tools, carefully release all retaining clips around the perimeter of the door panel. Start at the bottom rear corner and work around the panel. Once clips are released, lift the panel upward to disengage it from the door frame lip, then pull it away from the door. Disconnect any remaining electrical connectors for speakers or courtesy lights. Set the panel aside in a protected area.

   Remove Water Barrier
   Carefully peel back the plastic water barrier sheet to expose the inner door structure and window regulator assembly. Work slowly to preserve the adhesive for reinstallation. If the adhesive is damaged, mark areas that will need new sealing tape. Ensure full access to the window motor mounting area at the bottom of the door.

   Support Window Glass
   Manually raise the window glass to the full-up position. Secure the glass in place using window support wedges between the glass and door frame, or use masking tape to secure the glass to the door frame. This prevents the glass from falling when the regulator is disconnected.

   Disconnect Window Motor Electrical Connector
   Locate the power window motor electrical connector near the motor assembly at the bottom of the door. Press the locking tab and carefully disconnect the electrical connector from the motor. Ensure no tension is placed on wiring.

   Remove Motor-to-Regulator Fasteners
   Identify the mounting bolts securing the window motor to the regulator mechanism. Remove the three 10mm mounting bolts that attach the motor to the regulator assembly. The motor is typically mounted with a small bracket to the regulator gear mechanism. Support the motor as you remove the final bolt.

   Extract Window Motor
   Once all mounting bolts are removed, carefully separate the motor from the regulator gear assembly. The motor gear will disengage from the regulator drive mechanism. Remove the motor through the access hole in the door inner structure. Note the orientation and position of any shims or spacers for reinstallation.

   Install New Window Motor
   Position the new window motor at the regulator assembly, ensuring the motor gear properly engages with the regulator drive mechanism. Align mounting holes and verify proper seating. Insert mounting bolts finger-tight first to ensure proper alignment, then torque to specification in a cross-pattern.

   Reconnect Electrical and Test
   Reconnect the electrical connector to the new window motor, ensuring the locking tab clicks into place. Temporarily reconnect the battery negative terminal (torque to specification) to test motor operation. Remove window supports and use the window switch to verify smooth up and down operation through full travel. Check for unusual noise or binding. Disconnect battery again before final reassembly.

    Reinstall Water Barrier and Door Panel
    Press the water barrier sheet back into position, ensuring complete adhesion and proper seal. Replace any damaged adhesive sections with new tape. Reconnect all electrical connectors to the door panel (switches, speakers). Position the door panel onto the door frame lip, then press firmly around the perimeter to engage all retaining clips. Reinstall all door panel screws and trim covers, torquing fasteners as specified if applicable.

Reassembly

1. Reconnect battery negative terminal and torque to 6.0 Nm (4.0 lb-ft)
2. Perform window initialization procedure: with ignition on, fully lower window and hold switch for 2 seconds, then fully raise window and hold switch for 2 seconds to relearn window positions
3. Verify all door panel clips are fully seated and panel is secure with no rattles
4. Test all switches and verify courtesy lights function properly

• Cycle window up and down multiple times through full travel to ensure smooth operation
• Verify window auto-up and auto-down features work correctly (if equipped)
• Check for any unusual motor noise, binding, or hesitation during operation
