Turn Signal Bulb - Front

This procedure covers the removal and replacement of the front turn signal bulb assembly on a 2022 Rivian EDV 500 electric delivery van.

• Front turn signal bulb assembly × 1 — Use OEM Rivian specification LED module
• Push-pin retainers (if damaged) × 5 — Rivian OEM trim clips

Preparation

1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
2. Turn off vehicle and remove key fob from cabin
3. Allow vehicle to sit for 5 minutes to ensure all systems are powered down
4. Open hood and locate 12V auxiliary battery in front compartment
5. Disconnect negative terminal on 12V battery using 10mm socket
6. Wait 2 minutes for capacitor discharge before proceeding

Procedure

1. 1

   Access front wheel well
   Turn steering wheel fully to opposite side of repair (if replacing driver side, turn wheel to full right). This provides better access to the wheel well liner and headlight assembly mounting area.

   Remove front wheel well liner clips
   Locate the forward section of the wheel well liner. Remove 5-7 push-pin retainers along the front edge using trim removal tool. Gently pull the liner back to expose the rear of the headlight assembly. You do not need to remove the entire liner, just create enough clearance to access the turn signal module.

   Remove front bumper access panel
   From the front of the vehicle, locate the small rectangular access panel on the bumper behind the headlight area. Remove 3 T25 Torx screws securing this panel. Carefully pull the panel away and set aside with fasteners.

   Locate turn signal module connector
   Reach through the wheel well opening or bumper access area with work light to locate the turn signal LED module at the outboard corner of the headlight assembly. Identify the electrical connector on the rear of the module housing. Note the connector lock tab position.

   Disconnect electrical connector
   Press down on the connector lock tab while pulling the connector straight back from the turn signal module. Use needle-nose pliers if needed to access the lock tab. Do not pull on wires. Verify connector is fully disconnected and move wiring harness aside.

   Remove turn signal module retaining clips
   Locate the two spring clips securing the turn signal module to the headlight housing. Using your fingers or needle-nose pliers, squeeze the clips together while pushing the module forward from behind. The module should begin to release from its mounting position.

   Extract turn signal module
   Once clips are released, carefully rotate the turn signal module counterclockwise approximately 30 degrees and pull outward from the headlight assembly. Guide the module through the wheel well opening. Be careful not to drop the module or damage the lens.

   Prepare new turn signal module
   Remove new turn signal LED module from packaging. Inspect for any shipping damage. Verify gasket is properly seated on the back of the module housing. Do not remove protective lens covering if present until after installation.

   Install new module into housing
   Guide the new turn signal module into the headlight assembly opening from the wheel well side. Align the module tab with the slot in the housing. Insert the module and rotate clockwise approximately 30 degrees until it seats. You should hear or feel the retaining clips engage.

    Reconnect electrical connector
    Push the electrical connector firmly onto the pins at the rear of the new turn signal module until the lock tab clicks into place. Gently tug on the connector to verify it is fully locked. Do not force if resistance is felt - realign and try again.

    Test turn signal operation
    Before reassembling trim panels, reconnect the 12V battery negative terminal. Turn on the vehicle and test the turn signal function on the repaired side. Verify proper operation, flash rate, and brightness. Also check that DRL and parking light functions work if integrated.

    Reinstall access panels
    Once function is verified, turn vehicle off and disconnect 12V battery again. Reinstall the front bumper access panel with the 3 T25 Torx screws. Ensure panel is flush with bumper surface. Reposition the wheel well liner and install all push-pin retainers, replacing any damaged clips.

Reassembly

1. Reconnect 12V battery negative terminal and tighten to finger-tight plus 1/4 turn
2. Remove any protective lens covering from new turn signal module
3. Return steering wheel to center position
4. Close hood and ensure all trim panels are properly secured
5. Clear any fault codes that may have been stored during battery disconnect using Rivian service mode or OBD scanner

Verification

• Turn vehicle on and cycle through all lighting modes including turn signals, hazards, DRL, and parking lights
• Walk around vehicle and visually confirm both front turn signals flash at the same rate with equal brightness
• Verify no warning lights or messages appear on instrument cluster related to exterior lighting
• Check for proper sealing of turn signal module - no gaps between lens and headlight housing
• Test turn signal operation while vehicle is in motion to ensure no intermittent connection issues
