This procedure covers the removal and replacement of the audio amplifier in a 2023 Rivian EDV 500 commercial delivery van, typically located in the cargo area or behind interior panels.
Warnings
⚠️The high-voltage battery system must be fully powered down before performing this work. Wait 5 minutes after disconnecting the 12V battery to allow capacitors to discharge.
⚠The amplifier may retain residual electrical charge. Do not touch exposed terminals immediately after disconnection.
⚠Interior panels are fragile and clips break easily. Use proper trim removal tools and work carefully.
ℹ️The audio system may require reconfiguration or software initialization after amplifier replacement using Rivian diagnostic software.

Parts
- Audio amplifier assembly × 1 — Use OEM Rivian specification
- Interior panel clips (assorted) × 5 — Keep spares for damaged clips
Preparation
- Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
- Power down the vehicle completely using the center screen shutdown procedure
- Disconnect the 12V battery negative terminal and wait 5 minutes for system discharge
- Document or photograph wire harness routing and connector orientations before disassembly
- Ensure you have access to Rivian service portal for any post-installation programming requirements
Procedure
- 1Access cargo area and locate amplifierIn the cargo area, identify the amplifier location. On the EDV 500, the amplifier is typically mounted on the driver side interior wall panel behind the cargo area trim. Remove any cargo restraints or accessories blocking access to the panel.
- 2Remove cargo area side trim panelUsing trim panel pry tools, carefully release the retaining clips securing the driver side cargo area panel. Start at the rear edge and work forward. There are typically 8-12 push clips along the perimeter. Remove the panel slowly to avoid breaking clips and set aside in a safe location.
- 3Remove amplifier access coverLocate the amplifier module behind the trim panel. Remove the protective cover by removing four T25 Torx screws. The cover protects the amplifier and its connectors from cargo damage. Set screws aside in a container.
- 4Disconnect amplifier harness connectorsLocate the main wiring harness connectors on the amplifier. There are typically three connectors: power/ground (gray connector), speaker outputs (black connector), and signal input (blue connector). Press the locking tabs and carefully pull each connector straight out. Use the wire terminal release tool if connectors are stubborn.
- 5Disconnect fiber optic MOST connectorThe audio signal may use a fiber optic MOST bus connection. Identify the orange fiber optic connector on the amplifier. Press the release mechanism and pull straight out without bending the fiber optic cable. Cover the connector end immediately to prevent dust contamination.
- 6Remove amplifier mounting fastenersRemove the four 10mm mounting bolts securing the amplifier to the mounting bracket on the body panel. Support the amplifier with one hand while removing the final bolt to prevent it from falling.
- 7Remove amplifier from vehicleCarefully slide the amplifier out of its mounting position, ensuring no wiring is snagged. Inspect the mounting bracket for damage or corrosion. Clean the mounting surface if necessary.
- 8Prepare new amplifierRemove the new amplifier from packaging. Verify part numbers match the original unit. Transfer any mounting brackets or rubber isolators from the old amplifier to the new unit if they are not pre-installed.
- 9Install new amplifierPosition the new amplifier onto the mounting bracket, aligning the mounting holes. Install the four 10mm mounting bolts and tighten evenly in a cross pattern to ensure proper seating. Tighten securely but do not over-torque into the plastic mounting bosses.
- 10Reconnect fiber optic and electrical connectorsRemove the protective cover from the fiber optic connector and insert it into the amplifier until it clicks. Then reconnect all three electrical connectors to their respective ports on the amplifier, ensuring each connector locks firmly with an audible click. Verify correct connector orientation before pushing home.
- 11Reinstall amplifier cover and trim panelInstall the amplifier protective cover using the four T25 Torx screws. Reinstall the cargo area side trim panel by aligning the clips and pressing firmly until all clips engage. Replace any broken clips with new ones.
- 12Reconnect battery and initialize systemReconnect the 12V battery negative terminal. Power up the vehicle and allow all systems to initialize. The audio system may display a fault initially while it recognizes the new amplifier component.
Reassembly
- Ensure all electrical connectors are fully seated and locked before powering up the vehicle
- Verify all trim panels are properly secured and all clips are engaged
- Check that no tools or hardware were left in the cargo area behind panels
Verification
- Power on the vehicle and verify the infotainment system boots without audio-related fault codes
- Test all speakers individually using the audio system balance/fade controls to verify proper amplifier output
- Test audio at various volume levels to ensure no distortion or cutout occurs
- Verify subwoofer functionality if equipped by playing bass-heavy content
- Check for Bluetooth, USB, and radio source functionality through all speakers
- If fault codes persist, connect Rivian diagnostic software to perform amplifier configuration and software initialization
- Take a short test drive to verify audio system functions properly under normal driving conditions with no rattles from reinstalled panels
