Preparation

Procedure

1. 1

   Access vehicle diagnostic system
   Connect Rivian diagnostic tool or compatible OBD-II scanner to the diagnostic port located under the driver side dashboard. Power on the vehicle to accessory mode by pressing the brake pedal and pushing the power button once without holding.

   Activate wiper service position
   Using the diagnostic tool, navigate to Body Control Module and select 'Wiper Service Mode' or 'Wiper Park Position Override'. Activate the service position which will move wipers to mid-windshield position. Alternatively, turn on wipers and turn off ignition when wipers are at top of stroke to leave them in accessible position. Confirm wipers are positioned away from cowl area.

   Power down vehicle completely
   Turn off all vehicle systems and wait 2 minutes for capacitors to discharge. Verify the instrument cluster is completely dark. This ensures no power is flowing to the heated wiper elements during service.

   Remove cowl panel access covers
   Use panel removal tools to carefully pry up the cowl trim panels at the base of the windshield. Start at the outer edges and work inward. Remove T20 Torx screws securing cowl panels (typically 4-6 screws total). Disconnect washer fluid nozzle connectors if integrated into cowl panels. Set panels aside in clean area.

   Disconnect driver side wiper electrical connector
   Locate the heated wiper blade electrical connector near the base of the driver side wiper arm. Press the connector release tab and carefully pull connector apart. Inspect the seal for damage. Clean contacts with electrical contact cleaner if corrosion is present.

   Remove driver side wiper blade assembly
   Lift the wiper arm away from the windshield. Locate the blade release mechanism at the connection point between arm and blade (typically a tab or button on the adapter). Press or slide the release mechanism while pulling the blade assembly away from the wiper arm hook. For EDV 500, this may require sliding the blade assembly toward the base of the arm while pressing the release tab.

   Remove driver side wiper arm if necessary
   If wiper arm replacement or deep service is required, lift the protective cap at the base of the wiper arm. Remove the T30 Torx bolt securing the arm to the drive spindle. Mark the original position of the arm on the windshield with tape for reinstallation reference. Carefully pull the arm straight up off the splined spindle using even pressure.

   Disconnect passenger side wiper electrical connector
   Repeat the electrical connector disconnection process for the passenger side wiper. Press the connector release tab and separate the connector halves. Inspect seal condition and clean contacts as needed.

   Remove passenger side wiper blade assembly
   Lift the passenger wiper arm away from windshield. Activate the blade release mechanism and slide the blade assembly off the wiper arm hook using the same technique as the driver side. The passenger side may have a different adapter style on commercial EDV models.

    Install new passenger side wiper blade
    Align the new passenger side wiper blade adapter with the wiper arm hook. Slide the blade assembly onto the arm until you hear or feel a positive click indicating the locking mechanism has engaged. Gently tug the blade to verify it is securely locked onto the arm. Route the electrical pigtail toward the connector location.

    Install new driver side wiper blade
    Align the new driver side wiper blade adapter with the wiper arm hook. Slide the blade assembly onto the arm until it locks into place with an audible click. Verify secure attachment by pulling gently on the blade. Route electrical pigtail appropriately.

    Reconnect wiper electrical connectors
    Connect the driver side heated wiper connector by aligning the connector halves and pressing together until the locking tab clicks. Verify seal is properly seated. Repeat for passenger side connector. Ensure no wiring is pinched or stressed.

    Reinstall cowl panels
    Reconnect any washer nozzle connectors if applicable. Position cowl trim panels back into place, ensuring all alignment tabs are properly seated. Install T20 Torx screws and tighten evenly. Verify panels are flush and secure with no gaps.

    Exit service mode and test wipers
    Power vehicle to accessory mode. Use diagnostic tool to exit wiper service mode, or simply turn on wipers to return them to park position. Operate wipers through all speed settings (intermittent, low, high) and verify smooth operation without chattering or skipping. Test washer spray function. Verify heated wiper function if ambient temperature allows or through diagnostic system.

Reassembly

1. Ensure all electrical connectors are fully seated and sealed
2. Verify cowl panels are properly secured to prevent wind noise and water intrusion
3. Confirm wiper arms return to proper park position below hood line
4. Clean any fingerprints or debris from windshield

Verification

• Test wipers at all speeds to verify smooth, chatter-free operation across full windshield sweep
• Verify both wiper blades make full contact with windshield throughout entire stroke with no lifting or skipping
• Test washer fluid spray and wiper coordination function properly
• Check for proper park position with wipers fully concealed below hood line
• If equipped, verify heated wiper function through vehicle diagnostics or by checking current draw
• Inspect for any water leaks around cowl area after running washer system
• Verify no error messages appear on instrument cluster related to wiper system
• Test wiper operation at highway speeds if possible to confirm no wind lift or blade separation
