This procedure covers the removal and replacement of the instrument cluster on a 2024 Rivian EDV 500 commercial van, including disconnecting the high voltage system and recalibrating the cluster after installation.
Warnings
⚠️This vehicle contains high voltage systems (up to 400V DC). The 12V battery must be disconnected and the high voltage system must be fully depowered before beginning work. Failure to follow proper lockout/tagout procedures can result in severe injury or death.
⚠️Wait a minimum of 5 minutes after disconnecting the high voltage system before proceeding with any work to allow capacitors to discharge.
⚠The instrument cluster contains sensitive electronic components. Use anti-static precautions and avoid touching circuit board contacts directly.
⚠Do not force trim panels or fasteners. Rivian uses specific clips that can break if improperly removed.
ℹ️The replacement instrument cluster will require configuration and calibration using Rivian service software after installation.

Preparation
- Park the vehicle on a level surface and ensure the parking brake is engaged
- Turn off the vehicle completely and remove the key fob from the cabin
- Disconnect the 12V battery negative terminal and wait 2 minutes for system shutdown
- Access the high voltage service disconnect per Rivian service procedures and remove the service plug
- Wait a minimum of 5 minutes for high voltage capacitor discharge
- Place fender covers and interior protection to prevent damage during service
- Ensure you have Rivian service software access or authorized calibration equipment ready for post-installation programming
Procedure
- 1Remove lower steering column trimUsing the panel removal tool, carefully release the clips securing the lower steering column cover. Start at the bottom and work around the perimeter. Remove the lower trim panel and set aside in a protected area.
- 2Remove upper steering column trimRelease the upper steering column cover by unclipping the fasteners on both sides. Gently pull the upper trim away from the column and disconnect any electrical connectors for controls mounted in the trim panel (if equipped). Set the upper trim aside.
- 3Remove instrument cluster bezelUsing the panel removal tool, carefully pry the instrument cluster bezel starting from the bottom edge. Work around the perimeter to release all retaining clips. The bezel surrounds the cluster and must be fully removed to access the cluster mounting fasteners. Disconnect any ambient light sensor connectors if present.
- 4Remove cluster mounting fastenersLocate and remove the four T25 Torx screws securing the instrument cluster to the dashboard frame. These screws are typically located at the corners of the cluster assembly. Keep the screws organized for reinstallation.
- 5Pull cluster forwardCarefully pull the instrument cluster straight forward approximately 3-4 inches from the dashboard opening. Support the cluster with one hand while accessing the rear electrical connections. Do not pull excessively or allow the cluster to hang by its wiring.
- 6Disconnect main cluster connectorLocate the primary electrical connector on the rear of the instrument cluster. Press the connector release tab and carefully pull the connector straight back to disconnect. This is typically a large multi-pin connector with a positive locking mechanism.
- 7Disconnect auxiliary connectorsIdentify and disconnect any additional connectors on the rear of the cluster. Rivian EDV clusters may have secondary connectors for communication buses or sensor inputs. Note the position and orientation of each connector for proper reassembly.
- 8Remove instrument clusterWith all electrical connections disconnected, carefully remove the instrument cluster from the dashboard opening. Handle the cluster by the edges and avoid touching any exposed circuit boards or connectors. Place the old cluster in an anti-static bag if storing.
- 9Prepare new instrument clusterRemove the new instrument cluster from its protective packaging. Inspect the rear connectors for any shipping protectors or covers that need to be removed. Verify the cluster part number matches the vehicle application.
- 10Install and connect new clusterPosition the new instrument cluster near the dashboard opening. Reconnect all electrical connectors in reverse order of removal, ensuring each connector fully seats with a positive click. Verify the connector locking tabs engage properly. Guide the cluster carefully into the dashboard opening.
- 11Secure cluster mounting fastenersAlign the instrument cluster with the mounting holes and install the four T25 Torx screws. Tighten the screws in a cross pattern to ensure even seating. Snug the fasteners but do not overtighten as the cluster housing is plastic-backed.
- 12Reinstall cluster bezel and trimReconnect any ambient light sensors or bezel-mounted connectors. Align the instrument cluster bezel and press firmly around the perimeter to seat all retaining clips. Install the upper and lower steering column trim panels, ensuring all clips engage properly.
- 13Reconnect power systemsReinstall the high voltage service disconnect plug per Rivian procedures. Reconnect the 12V battery negative terminal. Verify all connections are secure before proceeding to vehicle startup.
- 14Initialize and calibrate clusterPower on the vehicle and connect the Rivian service software or compatible diagnostic tool. Follow the instrument cluster initialization procedure to configure the new cluster to the vehicle VIN. Perform any required calibrations including mileage programming (if legally permissible and documented), and cluster feature activation. Clear any diagnostic trouble codes related to cluster communication.
Reassembly
- Verify all trim panels are properly seated with no gaps or misalignment
- Check that all electrical connectors are fully engaged and locked
- Confirm all dashboard warning lights illuminate during the bulb check sequence at startup
Verification
- Turn the vehicle to ON position and verify the instrument cluster displays properly with no error messages
- Confirm all gauges, indicators, and warning lights function correctly including speedometer, battery state of charge, and range display
- Test that all cluster functions respond properly including trip computer, menu navigation, and driver assistance displays
- Verify the odometer displays the correct mileage and that the VIN is properly programmed to the cluster
- Using diagnostic software, verify no communication fault codes are present for the instrument cluster
- Test drive the vehicle to confirm all dynamic displays function correctly including speed, power consumption, and navigation prompts (if equipped)
