Speaker - Dash

This procedure covers the removal and replacement of the dashboard speaker in a 2024 Rivian EDV 500 electric delivery van.

• Dashboard trim panel clips (if damaged) × 5 — Use OEM specification

Preparation

1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
2. Ensure vehicle is fully powered down and key fob is at least 15 feet away from vehicle
3. Open driver's door and locate 12V battery access panel under driver's seat or in rear cargo area
4. Disconnect 12V battery negative terminal and wait minimum 2 minutes for system capacitor discharge
5. Gather all tools and replacement parts
6. Set up adequate lighting in dashboard area

Procedure

1. 1

   Remove dashboard upper trim panel
   Use trim removal tools to carefully release the clips securing the dashboard upper trim panel. Start at the outer edge near the A-pillar and work toward the center. There are typically 4-6 clips along the panel edge. Lift gently once all clips are released.

   Access dashboard speaker mounting area
   With the upper trim panel removed, identify the speaker location in the dashboard. The speaker will be visible through a speaker grille or beneath an additional trim piece. If there is a separate speaker grille, use trim tools to carefully pry it out from the dashboard.

   Remove speaker mounting fasteners
   Locate and remove the speaker mounting screws, typically 3-4 Torx screws (T20 or T25) securing the speaker to the dashboard structure. Keep all fasteners organized for reinstallation.

   Disconnect speaker wiring harness
   Carefully pull the speaker forward enough to access the wiring connector on the rear of the speaker assembly. Press the connector release tab and gently pull the connector straight off the speaker terminals. Do not pull on the wires themselves. If the connector is difficult to access, use a wire terminal release tool.

   Remove old speaker assembly
   Once the electrical connector is disconnected, remove the speaker assembly from the dashboard opening. Note the orientation and any mounting brackets or spacers that may be present.

   Inspect mounting area and wiring
   Examine the dashboard mounting area for any debris, damage, or corrosion. Inspect the wiring harness connector for bent pins, corrosion, or damage. Clean the mounting surface if necessary. Verify the new speaker matches the original configuration.

   Install new speaker assembly
   Position the new speaker into the dashboard opening in the same orientation as the original. Ensure any mounting brackets or spacers are properly aligned. Thread the wiring harness through any required openings.

   Connect speaker wiring harness
   Connect the wiring harness to the new speaker by aligning the connector and pressing firmly until you hear or feel a positive click. Gently tug on the connector to verify it is fully seated and locked.

   Secure speaker with mounting fasteners
   Install the speaker mounting screws in a cross pattern to ensure even seating. Tighten the Torx screws snugly but do not overtighten, as excessive force can crack the speaker housing or strip the dashboard mounting points.

    Test speaker operation
    Before reinstalling trim panels, reconnect the 12V battery negative terminal. Power on the vehicle and test the speaker by playing audio through the infotainment system. Test at various volume levels and balance settings to confirm proper operation and verify no distortion or rattles.

    Reinstall speaker grille
    If a separate speaker grille was removed, align it with the dashboard opening and press firmly around the perimeter until all clips engage. Ensure the grille is flush with the surrounding dashboard surface.

    Reinstall dashboard upper trim panel
    Align the upper dashboard trim panel with the mounting points and press firmly to engage all clips. Start at one end and work systematically to the other end. Verify all clips are fully engaged and the panel is seated evenly with no gaps.

Reassembly

1. Ensure all trim panels are properly aligned and all clips are fully engaged before testing
2. Verify no tools or parts are left in the dashboard area
3. Check that the speaker grille is properly seated and flush with the dashboard surface
4. Confirm all dashboard functions and controls are working properly after reassembly

Verification

• Power on the vehicle and access the audio system through the infotainment screen
• Play audio content and test the replaced speaker at various volume levels
• Use the balance and fade controls to isolate the replaced speaker and verify clear sound reproduction
• Check for any rattles, buzzing, or distortion during audio playback
• Verify all dashboard trim panels are secure with no gaps or loose clips
• Confirm no warning lights or error messages are displayed on the instrument cluster
• Test all dashboard controls and switches to ensure nothing was disturbed during the repair
