Symptoms: Clunking or thudding on hard acceleration or deceleration, Vibration through floorboards especially under load, Visible separation or cracking of rubber mount bushings

Fix: Replace front or rear drive unit mounts. Requires lifting vehicle, supporting drivetrain, and R&R of mount hardware. 2-3 hours labor per corner if accessible, but Rivian's packaging can push it to 4 hours for rear unit. Parts are dealer-only currently.

Symptoms: Loss of power to one axle (front or rear), Fault codes for motor temperature sensor or resolver issues, Reduced power mode or turtle mode activation, Grinding or whining noise from affected motor

Fix: Motor replacement requires discharging high-voltage system, disconnecting cooling lines, unbolting drive unit, and R&R motor assembly. Factory-authorized repair only due to HV safety lockouts. 8-12 hours labor plus diagnostic time. Most are warranty replacements, but out-of-warranty is brutal.

Symptoms: Coolant puddle under vehicle (pink/orange fluid), High-voltage system fault warnings, Overheating warnings on dash, Loss of propulsion or limp mode

Fix: Inverter coolant system shares plumbing with drive units. Leaks often at quick-connect fittings or inverter housing seals. Inverter replacement requires HV lockout procedures, coolant drain/refill, and software initialization. 6-10 hours labor. Some leaks can be addressed with seal kits (2-3 hours), but full inverter swap is common.

Symptoms: Clunking or rattling over bumps, Steering wander or vague handling, Visible gap at upper control arm or shock mounts, Recall notice received from Rivian

Fix: NHTSA recall for critical suspension fasteners (upper control arm bolts, shock mounts) that were improperly torqued or missing thread-locker. Dealer inspection and re-torque procedure. 1-2 hours labor. Free under recall, but if you buy used and it wasn't done, insist on it before delivery.

Fix: Software-related in some cases (OTA update fixes it), but persistent issues may require HVAC actuator or blower motor replacement. Dash removal for evaporator access is 8-12 hours if that's the culprit. Most are resolved with recalibration or blend door actuator swap (2-3 hours).

Fix: The 12V lithium auxiliary battery gets topped off by the HV pack, but software bugs or DC-DC converter issues can cause parasitic drain. Most fixes are software updates or 12V battery replacement (1 hour labor). DC-DC converter replacement is rare but requires HV lockout (4-6 hours).
