This procedure covers replacement of the front turn signal bulb in a 2018-2024 Toyota Camry with the 2.5L I4 engine, accessed from the engine bay.

Warnings

Allow bulb to cool completely before removal if vehicle was recently operated. Hot bulbs can cause burns.
ℹ️Avoid touching the glass portion of the new bulb with bare fingers. Skin oils can cause premature bulb failure. Use a clean cloth or wear gloves during installation.
ℹ️This procedure is for the front turn signal bulb only, not the headlight assembly or side marker.

Parts

  • Front turn signal bulb × 1 — 7440A or WY21W amber bulb (verify vehicle specification)

Preparation

  1. Park vehicle on level surface and turn off ignition
  2. Allow engine and bulb to cool if vehicle was recently operated
  3. Open hood and secure with prop rod
  4. Identify the failed bulb location (driver or passenger side) from front of vehicle

Procedure

  1. 1
Locate the turn signal bulb socket
From the engine bay, locate the back of the front turn signal housing. The turn signal socket is positioned on the outboard side of the headlight assembly, typically closer to the fender. On the driver side, you may need to move aside the fuse box or air intake components slightly for better access. On the passenger side, access is generally more direct.
  2. 2
    Remove the bulb socket
Grasp the bulb socket firmly and rotate it counterclockwise approximately 1/4 turn (90 degrees) until it releases from the housing. Pull the socket straight out of the housing. The socket and bulb will come out as one assembly.
  3. 3
    Remove the old bulb
Press the bulb gently into the socket while rotating counterclockwise to release it from the bayonet mount. Pull the bulb straight out of the socket. Inspect the socket for any corrosion, melting, or damage. If the socket shows damage, it should be replaced along with the bulb.
  4. 4
    Install the new bulb
Using a clean cloth or while wearing gloves, align the pins on the new bulb base with the slots in the socket. Press the bulb into the socket and rotate clockwise until it locks into place. Ensure the bulb is fully seated and secure in the socket.
  5. 5
    Reinstall the socket assembly
Insert the bulb socket back into the turn signal housing, aligning the tabs on the socket with the slots in the housing. Push the socket in fully and rotate clockwise approximately 1/4 turn until it locks into place. Ensure the socket is firmly seated and cannot be pulled out without rotating.

Reassembly

  1. Ensure the bulb socket is fully locked into the housing with no gaps
  2. Reposition any components that were moved for access (air intake, fuse box cover, etc.)
  3. Close the hood securely

Verification

  • Turn the ignition to the ON position without starting the engine
  • Activate the turn signal for the side you just replaced and verify the bulb flashes at normal speed
  • Walk around the vehicle to visually confirm the front turn signal is illuminating amber and flashing at the correct rate
  • Test the hazard lights to confirm the bulb functions in hazard mode as well
  • If the turn signal blinks rapidly (hyperflash), the bulb may not be seated correctly or the wrong bulb type was installed
