Fluids
- Windshield Washer Fluid — 3.5 qt
Preparation
- Park vehicle on level ground and engage parking brake
- Turn ignition off and remove key
- Allow engine to cool if recently operated
- Open hood and secure with prop rod
- Place drain pan beneath driver side front area to catch washer fluid
Procedure
- 1Drain existing washer fluidDisconnect the washer fluid hose from the reservoir by squeezing the retaining clip and pulling the hose off the reservoir nipple. Allow fluid to drain into your drain pan. Alternatively, use a fluid transfer pump to remove fluid from the filler neck before disconnecting hoses.
- 2Disconnect electrical connectorLocate the washer pump electrical connector on the bottom or side of the reservoir. Press the tab on the connector and pull straight out to disconnect it from the washer pump.
- 3Remove reservoir mounting boltsRemove the two 10mm mounting bolts securing the washer reservoir to the body. One bolt is typically located at the top of the reservoir near the filler neck, and one toward the bottom. Use an extension to access the lower bolt if needed.
- 4Remove washer reservoirCarefully lift and maneuver the reservoir out of the engine bay. You may need to angle it to clear surrounding components. The reservoir comes out toward the top of the engine bay on the driver side.
- 5Remove washer pump (if reusing)If reusing the washer pump, twist it counterclockwise approximately 1/4 turn and pull it out of the reservoir grommet. Inspect the grommet for cracks or damage. Remove the grommet from the old reservoir if it is in good condition and the new reservoir does not include one.
- 6Install washer pump into new reservoirInstall the grommet into the new reservoir opening. Align the washer pump tabs with the grommet slots and push the pump firmly into the grommet until it seats. Twist clockwise approximately 1/4 turn to lock it in place. Ensure the pump is secure and the grommet seals properly.
- 7Position new reservoirManeuver the new reservoir into position in the engine bay, angling it as needed to clear surrounding components. Align the mounting holes with the body mounting points.
- 8Install mounting boltsInstall the two reservoir mounting bolts and tighten them evenly. Torque the bolts to 20.0 Nm (15.0 lb-ft) using a torque wrench.Torque specBracket Bolts20 Nm (15 lb-ft)
- 9Reconnect electrical connectorReconnect the electrical connector to the washer pump by pushing it straight on until you hear or feel a click indicating it is fully seated.
- 10Reconnect washer hosePush the washer fluid supply hose firmly onto the reservoir nipple until the retaining clip engages. Tug gently on the hose to verify it is secure.
- 11Fill reservoir with washer fluidFill the reservoir with approximately 3.5 quarts of windshield washer fluid through the filler neck. Do not overfill. Use the fill line indicator on the reservoir if present.
Reassembly
- Ensure all hose connections are secure and not kinked
- Verify electrical connector is fully seated with audible click
- Confirm reservoir is properly secured and does not move when pushed
- Check that no tools or parts were left in the engine bay
Verification
- Turn ignition to ON position without starting engine
- Activate windshield washers and verify fluid sprays properly from all nozzles
- Check for leaks around reservoir, pump grommet, and hose connections while washers are operating
- Verify washer pump operates quietly without unusual noise
- Inspect ground under vehicle after a few minutes to confirm no leaks
- Top off washer fluid level if needed after testing
