This procedure covers dismounting old tires from wheels, mounting new tires, and balancing the wheel assemblies for a 2014-2019 Toyota Corolla.
Warnings
⚠Never exceed 40 PSI when seating tire beads to prevent tire or rim damage
⚠Always use a safety cage or restraint device when inflating tires off the vehicle
ℹ️Verify tire size matches vehicle door jamb specification before mounting

Parts
- Tires (set of 4) × 4 — 205/55R16 or 215/45R17 depending on trim
- Valve stems (TR413 rubber or aluminum) × 4 — TR413 snap-in valve stem
- Wheel weights (adhesive or clip-on) × 1 — As needed per wheel balance
- Tire valve caps × 4 — Standard plastic or metal caps
Preparation
- Verify new tires match the size specified on the vehicle door jamb sticker (typically 205/55R16 or 215/45R17)
- Inspect wheels for damage, cracks, or bent rims that would prevent proper mounting
- Check that tire changing machine and wheel balancer are properly calibrated
- Gather all wheel weights and ensure adequate tire mounting lubricant is available
Procedure
- 1Deflate and dismount old tiresRemove valve core from each wheel to fully deflate the tire. Position the wheel on the tire changing machine with the outside face up. Apply tire mounting lubricant to both beads. Use the machine's bead breaker to break both inner and outer beads. Mount the wheel securely on the turntable and use the dismounting arm to lift the top bead over the rim, then rotate and remove the tire completely.
- 2Clean and inspect wheelsUse a wire brush to clean the bead seating areas on both the inner and outer rim flanges. Remove all old wheel weights from the wheel. Inspect the rim for cracks, bends, or corrosion in the bead seating area. Check the valve stem hole for damage or elongation.
- 3Install new valve stemsRemove the old valve stem by pulling it through the rim hole from the inside. Lubricate the new valve stem and pull it through the valve hole using a valve stem installation tool until it seats properly. Verify the stem is secure and perpendicular to the rim.
- 4Mount new tire onto wheelApply tire mounting lubricant generously to both tire beads and the rim bead seating areas. Position the tire onto the wheel with the tire sidewall markings (size, DOT code, and any directional arrows) facing outward. Using the tire machine, press the bottom bead over the rim edge first, then rotate the wheel and mount the top bead. Ensure the tire mounting head does not damage the tire bead or wheel finish.
- 5Seat tire beadsInstall the valve core and begin inflating the tire. Listen and watch for both beads to seat against the rim with audible pops. If beads do not seat by 35 PSI, deflate and reposition the tire, adding more lubricant if necessary. Once beads are seated, adjust tire pressure to 35 PSI for balancing.
- 6Balance wheel assemblyClean the wheel mounting surface and mount the wheel assembly onto the wheel balancer. Enter the wheel diameter (16 or 17 inches), width, and offset distance into the balancer. Spin the wheel and allow the balancer to calculate the required weight amounts and positions. Apply adhesive weights to the inner barrel or clip-on weights to the outer rim flange as indicated by the balancer. Re-spin to verify balance is within 0.25 oz or less.
- 7Set final tire pressureAdjust tire pressure to the vehicle specification listed on the driver's door jamb (typically 32-35 PSI front and rear for Corolla). Install valve caps on all valve stems. Mark or note which wheel position each balanced assembly came from if maintaining tire rotation records.
- 8Install wheels on vehicleMount each wheel onto the hub, ensuring the hub centering bore properly aligns. Install lug nuts by hand and thread them in a star pattern to avoid cross-threading. Use a torque wrench to tighten lug nuts in a star pattern to specification.Torque specWheel Lug Nuts140 Nm (103 lb-ft)
Reassembly
- Lower vehicle completely to the ground before final torque verification
- Re-torque wheel lug nuts after 50-100 miles of driving to ensure proper seating
Verification
- Verify all tire pressures match the door jamb specification using an accurate gauge
- Test drive the vehicle at various speeds and verify no vibration is present
- Visually inspect all wheels to confirm weights are secure and valve caps are installed
- Check that all lug nuts are torqued to 140 Nm (103 lb-ft) in a star pattern
