Preparation

  1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
  2. Loosen rear wheel lug nuts while vehicle is on the ground (do not remove)
  3. Loosen the rear axle nut while vehicle is on ground with parking brake applied and vehicle in park (breaker bar required)
  4. Raise rear of vehicle and support securely on jack stands at manufacturer-specified jacking points
  5. Remove rear wheel completely

    Pull the hub assembly straight off the knuckle. The axle shaft will slide out of the hub bearing. If the hub is stuck, carefully use a soft-faced mallet to tap around the perimeter of the hub to break it free. Do not pry against the ABS tone ring or backing plate.

    Thoroughly clean the hub mounting surface on the knuckle using a wire brush. Remove all rust, corrosion, and debris. Clean the backing plate area and inspect for damage. Clean the axle shaft splines and apply a light coat of anti-seize to prevent future binding.

    Install new hub assembly
    Align the new hub assembly with the knuckle, ensuring the ABS sensor hole is properly positioned. Guide the axle shaft through the center of the new hub bearing. Push the hub assembly fully onto the knuckle until it seats completely against the mounting surface.

    Install and torque hub mounting bolts
    Install all four hub mounting bolts from the rear of the knuckle. Start all bolts by hand to ensure proper thread engagement. Torque the bolts in a cross pattern to 97 Nm (71 lb-ft) to ensure even seating of the hub assembly.

    Reinstall ABS wheel speed sensor
    Clean the ABS sensor tip and the sensor bore in the hub if necessary. Insert the ABS sensor into the hub assembly and install the mounting bolt. Torque the sensor bolt to 10 Nm (8 lb-ft). Ensure the wiring harness is properly routed and secured.

    Reinstall brake rotor and caliper
    Slide the brake rotor onto the hub assembly. Apply medium-strength threadlocker to the caliper bracket bolt threads as recommended. Position the caliper and bracket assembly over the rotor and install the two bracket bolts. Torque the caliper bracket bolts to 100 Nm (74 lb-ft).

    Install wheel and lower vehicle
    Install the wheel and thread all lug nuts by hand. Tighten the lug nuts in a star pattern until snug but do not torque yet. Lower the vehicle until the tire just contacts the ground but the suspension is not yet loaded.

    With the vehicle on the ground and parking brake applied, torque the axle nut to 200 Nm (148 lb-ft) using a torque wrench and 30mm socket. Stake the axle nut collar into the axle shaft groove using a punch and hammer. Torque the wheel lug nuts in a star pattern to 129 Nm (95 lb-ft). Fully lower the vehicle and remove jack stands.

  1. Ensure all fasteners are torqued to specification in the correct sequence
