Power Mirror Motor

This procedure covers the removal and replacement of the power mirror motor assembly on a 2019-2024 Toyota RAV4 with the 2.5L I4 engine.

• Power mirror motor assembly × 1 — Use OEM specification
• Door panel clips (replacement set) × 1 — 90467-09139 or equivalent

Preparation

1. Park vehicle on level surface and set parking brake
2. Disconnect negative battery terminal and wait 90 seconds for airbag system to discharge
3. Roll window fully up before beginning work
4. Prepare a clean workspace to place the door panel without scratching the paint surface

Procedure

1. 1

   Remove door panel lower fasteners
   Using a Phillips screwdriver, remove the screw located in the door pull handle recess. Remove the screw behind the interior door handle trim cover by first prying off the small trim cover with a plastic trim tool.

   Disconnect door handle assembly
   Carefully pry the interior door handle trim bezel away from the door panel using a trim removal tool. Disconnect the door handle cable by sliding it out of the handle mechanism. Note the routing of the cable for reinstallation.

   Release door panel clips
   Starting at the bottom rear corner of the door panel, use a panel removal tool to release the retaining clips around the perimeter of the door panel. Work your way around the panel, gently pulling outward to release each clip. There are approximately 8-10 clips securing the panel.

   Lift and remove door panel
   Once all clips are released, lift the door panel upward to disengage it from the window sill, then pull it away from the door frame. Disconnect any remaining electrical connectors (power window, power lock, mirror controls) by pressing the release tabs and pulling straight out. Set the door panel aside on a protected surface.

   Remove door weathershield
   Carefully peel back the plastic weathershield (vapor barrier) to access the mirror mounting area. Only remove as much as necessary to access the mirror assembly. If the adhesive is damaged, have replacement weathershield adhesive ready for reinstallation.

   Disconnect mirror electrical connector
   Locate the mirror electrical connector inside the door cavity. Press the connector release tab and disconnect the wiring harness from the mirror assembly. If connector is difficult to reach, it may be accessed from the top of the door frame.

   Remove mirror assembly mounting bolts
   Using a 10mm socket, remove the three mounting bolts securing the mirror assembly to the door frame. These bolts are accessed from inside the door cavity. Support the mirror from the outside while removing the final bolt to prevent it from falling.
   Torque spec

   Module Mounting Bolts8 Nm (6 lb-ft)

   Remove mirror assembly from door
   Carefully pull the mirror assembly away from the door frame, guiding the wiring harness through the opening. Remove the mirror assembly completely from the vehicle.

   Install new mirror assembly
   Guide the new mirror assembly wiring harness through the door frame opening. Align the mirror assembly with the three mounting holes on the door frame. Hand-thread all three mounting bolts before tightening to ensure proper alignment.
   Torque spec

   Module Mounting Bolts8 Nm (6 lb-ft)

    Tighten mirror mounting bolts
    Using a torque wrench and 10mm socket, tighten the three mirror mounting bolts to 27.0 Nm (20 lb-ft) in a star pattern to ensure even pressure distribution.

    Reconnect mirror electrical connector
    Connect the mirror electrical connector inside the door cavity. Ensure the connector clicks securely into place and that the locking tab is fully engaged.

    Test mirror operation before final reassembly
    Temporarily reconnect the battery negative terminal and test all mirror functions: up, down, left, right, and fold (if equipped). Also test mirror heating function if equipped. Verify smooth operation in all directions. Disconnect battery again before continuing reassembly.
    Torque spec

    Battery Terminal Bolts6 Nm (4 lb-ft)

Reassembly

1. Reapply the door weathershield, ensuring a complete seal around the perimeter to prevent water intrusion
2. Reconnect all door panel electrical connectors for window, lock, and mirror controls
3. Reconnect the door handle cable, ensuring proper routing and function
4. Align door panel with window sill and press firmly around perimeter to engage all retaining clips
5. Reinstall door panel screws in handle areas and replace trim covers
6. Reconnect battery negative terminal and torque to 6.0 Nm (4.0 lb-ft)

Verification

• Test all mirror adjustment directions (up, down, left, right) for smooth operation without binding or unusual noise
• Test mirror fold function if equipped, ensuring it folds and unfolds completely
• Test mirror heating function if equipped by running defroster for 2-3 minutes
• Verify no warning lights on instrument cluster related to mirror system
• Check that door panel is secure with no rattles and all clips are engaged
• Confirm all door functions (window, locks, handles) operate normally after reassembly
