Parts

  • Audio amplifier × 1 — Use OEM specification

Preparation

  1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
  2. Turn ignition off and remove key, wait 90 seconds for audio system to power down
  3. Open hood and disconnect negative battery terminal
  4. Move passenger seat fully forward and up to maximum height for access
  5. Take photo of amplifier connector orientation for reference during reinstallation

Procedure

  1. 1
    Remove passenger seat trim panel
Using panel trim removal tools, carefully pry up the plastic trim panel covering the floor area under the passenger seat. Start at the front edge and work backwards. There are multiple plastic clips holding this panel in place. Set panel and clips aside.
  2. 2
    Locate the amplifier
The amplifier is mounted to the floor under the passenger seat, typically positioned towards the center console side. It is a rectangular metal box with a large multi-pin connector and potentially smaller connectors depending on audio system configuration. Use flashlight to identify mounting bolts.
  3. 3
    Disconnect amplifier electrical connectors
Press the locking tab on the main amplifier connector and pull straight out to disconnect. There may be 1-3 connectors depending on speaker configuration. For each connector, locate the locking mechanism (slide lock or press tab) and carefully release before pulling. Do not force connectors.
Connector locking tabs are fragile. Ensure lock is fully released before pulling to avoid breaking the tab.
  4. 4
    Remove ground connection if present
Check if amplifier has a separate ground wire or strap bolted to the body or amplifier housing. If present, remove the ground bolt using 10mm socket. Note location and cleanliness of contact surface for reinstallation.

    Ground Bolt14 Nm (10 lb-ft)
  5. 5
    Remove amplifier mounting bolts
Using a 10mm socket with extension if needed, remove the mounting bolts securing the amplifier to the floor bracket. Typically there are 2-4 bolts. Support the amplifier while removing the final bolt to prevent it from dropping.
    Torque spec
    Module Mounting Bolts8 Nm (6 lb-ft)
  6. 6
    Remove amplifier from vehicle
Carefully lift the amplifier out from under the seat, maneuvering around any wiring harnesses or brackets. Check that all connectors have been disconnected before fully removing the unit.
  7. 7
    Install new amplifier
Position the new amplifier in the mounting location, aligning the mounting holes with the floor bracket. Thread in the mounting bolts by hand first to ensure proper alignment, then tighten in a cross pattern to the specified torque.

    Module Mounting Bolts8 Nm (6 lb-ft)
  8. 8
    Reconnect ground connection
If vehicle has a separate ground wire or strap, clean the contact surfaces with a wire brush or sandpaper to ensure bare metal contact. Reconnect the ground bolt and torque to specification.
ℹ️Clean ground contact surfaces are critical for proper amplifier operation and preventing electrical noise.
    Torque spec
    Ground Bolt14 Nm (10 lb-ft)
  9. 9
    Reconnect electrical connectors
Referring to photo taken during disassembly, reconnect all electrical connectors to the amplifier. Push each connector firmly until the locking tab clicks into place. Verify each connector is fully seated by giving a gentle tug.
  10. 10
    Reinstall trim panel
Position the floor trim panel back into place, ensuring all wiring is tucked properly and not pinched. Press firmly around all clip locations to secure the panel. Verify panel sits flush with no gaps.
  11. 11
    Reconnect battery
Return to engine bay and reconnect the negative battery terminal. Torque the terminal bolt to specification, being careful not to overtighten.
Battery terminal bolt must not be overtightened as this can damage the terminal or strip threads.
    Torque spec
    Battery Terminal Bolts6 Nm (4 lb-ft)

Reassembly

  1. Return passenger seat to normal position
  2. Reset clock and radio presets as needed
  3. Perform audio system verification per procedure below

Verification

  • Turn ignition to ON position without starting engine
  • Turn on audio system and verify display lights up and shows no error codes
  • Test all speakers (front left, front right, rear left, rear right) using balance and fade controls to confirm all channels are working
  • Test various audio sources (radio, Bluetooth, USB) to verify full functionality
  • Adjust volume through full range to verify no distortion or cutting out
  • Test subwoofer if equipped by playing bass-heavy content
  • Check for any unusual noises, buzzing, or interference from audio system
