Parts

  • Climate control module × 1 — Use OEM specification
  • Dashboard trim panel clips (if broken) × 1 — Use OEM specification

Preparation

  1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
  2. Turn ignition off and remove key/fob from vehicle
  3. Disconnect negative battery terminal and wait 90 seconds for airbag system capacitors to discharge
  4. Allow interior to cool if vehicle was recently operated with climate control on
  5. Set steering wheel to center position for access

Procedure

  1. 1
    Remove lower dashboard trim panel
Using trim removal tools, carefully pry out the lower dashboard trim panel below the climate control area. Start at the bottom edge and work around the perimeter. Release all clips and set panel aside in a safe location to avoid scratching.
  2. 2
Remove center console upper trim bezel
Gently pry out the center stack trim bezel surrounding the climate control module and infotainment screen. This panel is held by multiple clips around its perimeter. Work carefully from bottom to top, releasing each clip without forcing. Disconnect any electrical connectors for hazard switch or other controls if present on this trim piece.
  3. 3
Remove climate control module mounting screws
Locate the mounting screws securing the climate control module to the dashboard bracket. There are typically 4 screws around the perimeter of the module. Remove these screws using a 10mm socket or Phillips screwdriver as appropriate and retain them for reinstallation.

    Cover Screws11 Nm (8 lb-ft)
  4. 4
    Pull module forward from dashboard
Carefully pull the climate control module forward from the dashboard cavity approximately 2-3 inches. Do not pull too far as electrical connectors and possibly vacuum lines are still attached to the rear of the module. Use a flashlight to inspect the rear connections.
  5. 5
    Disconnect electrical connectors
Locate all electrical connectors on the rear of the climate control module. There are typically 2-3 multi-pin connectors. Press the locking tabs and carefully disconnect each connector. Note the orientation and position of each connector for proper reinstallation.
  6. 6
    Disconnect vacuum lines if equipped
If your vehicle has vacuum-actuated HVAC controls, locate and disconnect any vacuum lines from the rear of the module. Use needle-nose pliers to release hose clamps if present. Mark or photograph vacuum line routing before removal to ensure correct reinstallation.

    Hose Clamps3 Nm (2 lb-ft)
  7. 7
    Remove climate control module
With all connections disconnected, fully remove the climate control module from the dashboard. Inspect the module mounting bracket for damage and clean any dust or debris from the mounting area.
  8. 8
    Install new climate control module
Position the new climate control module near the dashboard opening. Reconnect all electrical connectors first, ensuring each connector clicks securely into place and locking tabs engage. Reconnect vacuum lines if equipped, ensuring proper routing and secure connections.
  9. 9
    Secure module to dashboard
Carefully push the climate control module into the dashboard cavity, ensuring no wires or hoses are pinched. Align the module with mounting holes and install all mounting screws. Tighten screws to specified torque in a cross-pattern to ensure even pressure and proper seating.

    Cover Screws11 Nm (8 lb-ft)
  10. 10
    Reinstall center trim bezel
Reconnect any electrical connectors for switches on the trim bezel. Align the trim bezel with the dashboard and press firmly around all edges to seat the retaining clips. Verify all clips are fully engaged and the bezel sits flush with surrounding surfaces.
  11. 11
    Reinstall lower trim panel
Position the lower dashboard trim panel and align all mounting points. Press firmly around the perimeter to engage all retaining clips. Verify the panel is secure and properly aligned with adjacent trim pieces.

Reassembly

  1. Reconnect negative battery terminal and ensure secure connection
  2. Verify all trim panels are properly seated and all clips engaged
  3. Check that no gaps exist between trim pieces

Verification

  • Turn ignition to ON position and verify climate control module illuminates and displays properly
  • Test all climate control functions including fan speed, temperature adjustment, mode selection, and air recirculation
  • Verify air flows from correct vents when different modes are selected
  • Test automatic climate control functions if equipped
  • Check that all dashboard trim panels are secure with no rattles or loose clips
  • If module replacement was due to connectivity issues, verify proper communication with vehicle network using scan tool
  • Test drive vehicle and confirm climate control operates normally under various conditions
