Parts
- Dashboard tweeter speaker × 1 — Use OEM specification or aftermarket equivalent
Preparation
- Park vehicle on level surface and turn off ignition
- Allow interior to cool if vehicle was recently driven in sunlight to prevent trim damage
- Disconnect negative battery terminal and wait 90 seconds
- Gather replacement speaker and verify it matches the original configuration
Procedure
- 1Locate the dash speaker grilleThe tweeter speaker is located at the top corner of the dashboard near the windshield, on either the driver or passenger side. Identify the triangular or rectangular speaker grille cover on the dashboard surface.
- 2Remove the speaker grille coverUsing a trim panel removal tool, carefully pry up the speaker grille cover starting from the edge closest to the door. Work your way around the perimeter, releasing the retaining clips. The grille is held by 3-4 plastic clips and does not use screws. Lift the grille away from the dashboard once all clips are released.
- 3Remove speaker mounting screwsWith the grille removed, you will see the tweeter speaker secured by 2-3 Phillips head screws. Remove all screws and set them aside in a safe location. On some trim levels, the speaker may have a small plastic mounting bracket that comes out with the speaker.
- 4Extract the speaker assemblyGently pull the speaker up and out of the mounting cavity. There will be a wire harness connected to the back of the speaker. Carefully tilt the speaker to access the connector without pulling on the wires.
- 5Disconnect the speaker harnessPress the locking tab on the electrical connector while gently pulling the connector away from the speaker terminals. If the connector is difficult to release, use a small flathead screwdriver to carefully depress the locking tab. Avoid pulling on the wires themselves.
- 6Prepare and install new speakerCompare the new speaker to the old one to verify correct replacement part. Check the polarity markings on both the speaker terminals and connector. Connect the wire harness to the new speaker, ensuring the locking tab clicks into place securely.
- 7Mount the new speakerPosition the new speaker into the mounting cavity, ensuring any alignment tabs fit properly and wires are not pinched. Install the mounting screws and tighten in a cross pattern to ensure even seating. Screws should be snug but not overtightened as they thread into plastic.
- 8Reinstall speaker grilleAlign the speaker grille cover with the dashboard opening, ensuring all clip locations are positioned correctly. Press firmly around the perimeter until all clips snap into place. Verify the grille sits flush with the dashboard surface.
Reassembly
- Reconnect the negative battery terminal
- Verify all dashboard trim pieces are properly seated and flush
- Ensure no tools or parts were left in the dashboard cavity
Verification
- Turn ignition to ACC or ON position and test the audio system
- Play audio through the replaced speaker and verify clear sound with no distortion or rattling
- Test balance and fade controls to confirm the speaker responds correctly
- Verify the speaker grille is secure and does not rattle during normal driving conditions
- Check that no warning lights appear on the instrument cluster after battery reconnection
