This procedure relearns the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) sensors after tire rotation, replacement, or pressure adjustment on the 2019-2024 Toyota RAV4 with 2.5L I4 engine.

Warnings

ℹ️TPMS relearn must be performed after tire rotation, tire replacement, sensor replacement, or significant tire pressure changes.
Ensure vehicle has been stationary for at least 15 minutes before checking tire pressures for accurate readings.

Tools required

Tire pressure gaugeEssential
Air compressor or tire inflatorEssential

Preparation

  1. Locate the tire pressure specification label on the driver's door jamb
  2. Ensure all tires are cold (vehicle has not been driven for at least 15 minutes)
  3. Verify the ignition key is available and battery is in good condition
  4. Park vehicle on level ground

Procedure

  1. 1
    Check and adjust tire pressures
Using a tire pressure gauge, check all four tires and adjust to the pressure specified on the door jamb label (typically 35 PSI front and rear for standard load). Ensure all tires are set to exactly the recommended pressure.
  2. 2
    Turn ignition to ON position
Insert the key and turn the ignition to the ON position without starting the engine. For push-button start models, press the START button twice without pressing the brake pedal. Verify that the instrument cluster illuminates.
  3. 3
    Access TPMS reset button
Locate the TPMS reset button below the steering wheel, to the left of the steering column near the hood release. The button is a small black button with a tire icon or labeled 'SET'.
  4. 4
    Activate TPMS relearn mode
Press and hold the TPMS reset button until the TPMS warning light in the instrument cluster blinks three times slowly (approximately 3 seconds). Release the button. The TPMS indicator light should now blink and then remain illuminated, indicating the system is in relearn mode.
  5. 5
    Drive vehicle to complete relearn
Turn off the ignition and start the engine. Drive the vehicle at speeds above 25 MPH for approximately 10-15 minutes. The system will automatically register all four tire pressure sensors during this drive cycle. Vary speeds between 25-65 MPH on surface streets or highway.
  6. 6
    Verify TPMS relearn completion
After the drive cycle, park the vehicle and turn off the engine. Wait 10 seconds, then restart the engine. The TPMS warning light should turn off within 1 minute if the relearn was successful. If the light remains on or blinks, repeat the procedure from Step 2.

Reassembly

  1. No reassembly required for this procedure

Verification

  • Confirm the TPMS warning light is off with the engine running
  • Verify individual tire pressure readings are displayed correctly in the multi-information display (if equipped)
  • Test the system by reducing pressure in one tire by 5 PSI - the warning light should illuminate within 1-2 minutes of driving
  • Re-inflate the test tire to proper pressure and repeat the relearn procedure if tested
