Symptoms: Blue smoke on startup or acceleration, Oil consumption exceeding 1 quart per 1,000 miles, Fouled spark plugs and misfires (P0300-P0306 codes), Loss of power under load

Fix: Requires complete engine teardown: pistons, rings, honing cylinders, new bearings. Shop time 20-30 hours for in-frame rebuild; many opt for reman short block swap (12-16 hours). Toyota had a warranty extension (expired) but no recall.

Symptoms: Visible perforation or scaling rust on rear frame sections near leaf spring mounts, Flaking/bubbling undercoating, Frame flex or cracking noise over bumps (advanced cases)

Fix: Toyota issued recall 10TA2 for frame replacement on rust-belt trucks through 2010 MY, but many 2007s aged out of eligibility by mileage/time. If frame is compromised, it's totaled — no safe repair. Recall-replaced frames got 15-year unlimited-mile warranty.

Symptoms: Loud bang from rear suspension, Severe rear sag on one side, Metal-on-metal clunking over bumps, Visible crack or separation in spring leaves

Fix: Main leaf cracks at center pin or at u-bolt contact points, especially on overloaded or salt-exposed trucks. Replace full spring pack both sides (don't mix old/new). 2-3 hours per side. Recall 13TA2 covered some but not all 2007s.

Symptoms: Transmission fluid leaking at radiator cooler fittings, Pink fluid drips under front of truck, Low trans fluid warning or slipping shifts

Fix: Steel cooler lines rust at crimped ends or where they pass frame brackets. Replace both lines (OEM or aftermarket braided). 1.5-2 hours labor plus fluid/filter service. Prevent by inspecting lines during every oil change.

Fix: Throttle body plate carbons up, causing sticky response. Clean throttle body with spray and rag (0.5 hour). Pedal assembly itself was subject to recall 10TA1 for floor mat interference — verify pedal was updated. Not a major cost issue.

Fix: OEM ball joints are pressed into the lower control arm; aftermarket replacements are screw-in or press-in. Most shops replace the whole lower control arm assembly (easier). 2 hours per side plus alignment. Inspect every tire rotation after 60k.

Symptoms: Tailgate handle pulls but gate won't unlatch, Requires wiggling or multiple attempts to open, Visible fray or kink in white plastic-coated cable inside handle

Fix: Plastic-coated actuator cable frays at bend point inside handle assembly. Replace handle assembly or just the cable (aftermarket). 0.5 hour labor. Common enough that many owners keep a spare cable in the toolbox.
