Wiring

Front sensors: Gray/Black pair (LF), Tan/Dark Blue pair (RF). Rear sensors: Yellow/Light Blue pair (LR), Purple/Light Green pair (RR)

Expected Voltage Range

At Idle
0V to 0V
At Higher RPM
-8V to 8V

Expected Pattern

AC sine wave with frequency proportional to wheel speed, amplitude increases with speed, typically 48-100 pulses per revolution depending on tone ring configuration

Known-Good Waveform

At 10-15 mph, expect clean sine waves of 0.5-1.5V peak-to-peak with 10-20 Hz frequency. At 60 mph, amplitude should increase to 5-10V peak-to-peak with proportionally higher frequency. All four sensors should show similar waveforms at the same vehicle speed. Waveform should be symmetrical above and below zero with consistent amplitude.

Common Failure Patterns

Low amplitude signal (under 200mV at 10mph) or complete signal loss
Cause: Excessive air gap between sensor and tone ring (usually from worn wheel bearing), sensor mounting loose
Related DTCs: C0035, C0040, C0045, C0050
Erratic or missing pulses, inconsistent waveform
Cause: Damaged or missing teeth on tone ring, metal debris on tone ring, cracked reluctor ring
Related DTCs: C0035, C0040, C0045, C0050
No signal at any speed, dead sensor
Cause: Sensor coil open circuit, damaged wiring from road debris, corroded connector
Related DTCs: C0035, C0040, C0045, C0050

Diagnostic Tips

Silverado 1500 RWD uses integral wheel bearing/hub assemblies - if tone ring is damaged, entire hub must be replaced. Common issue is water intrusion at sensor connectors causing corrosion. Compare all four sensors simultaneously to identify weak or failing sensor. Air gap should be 0.020-0.050 inches - check with feeler gauge if accessible.
