Known-Good Waveform

This vehicle does not have an electronic MAP sensor. The 1972 400ci engine uses direct intake manifold vacuum to operate the distributor vacuum advance mechanism and carburetor power valve. Vacuum is transmitted through rubber hoses to mechanical diaphragms. Normal idle vacuum should be 16-20 inches Hg with properly tuned engine.

Diagnostic Tips

Manifold pressure diagnosis requires mechanical vacuum gauge. Test vacuum at idle, snap throttle, and cruise. Check distributor vacuum advance with timing light while applying vacuum to advance canister.
