Location
Integrated into Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor housing on air intake tube between air filter and throttle body
Pins
2-pin connector

Timebase

Trigger
Not applicable for DC measurement

Wiring

Tan/Orange wire (signal) and Gray/White wire (5V reference), shares ground through MAF connector

Expected Voltage Range

At Idle
1.5V to 3.5V
At Higher RPM
1.2V to 2.8V

Expected Pattern

Stable DC voltage inversely proportional to intake air temperature, may slightly decrease under heavy acceleration due to air heating

Known-Good Waveform

At ambient temperature (68°F), expect 2.5-3.0V. Voltage decreases as intake air warms from engine heat or turbo operation. Should match ECT sensor voltage at cold start since both sensors measure ambient temperature. Voltage should be stable with minimal noise (less than 0.05V ripple).

Common Failure Patterns

Reading stuck at -40°F (4.8-5.0V) or very high voltage
Cause: Open circuit in IAT portion of MAF sensor, broken thermistor element
Related DTCs: P0112, P0113
Voltage near 0V or reading extremely high temperature
Cause: Short to ground in MAF connector or IAT circuit
Related DTCs: P0112
Erratic voltage fluctuations or intermittent readings
Cause: Contaminated MAF sensor element affecting IAT sensor, corroded MAF connector pins
Related DTCs: P0113, P0068

Diagnostic Tips

Since IAT is integrated into the MAF sensor on this vehicle, contamination or MAF failure often affects both sensors. Always check that IAT and ECT match at cold start - more than 15°F difference indicates a problem. Clean MAF sensor with proper MAF cleaner, not carburetor cleaner which can damage the hot-wire element.
