Wiring

Power: Black/Yellow, Trigger/Control: Varies by cylinder (monitored from coil negative terminal)

Expected Voltage Range

At Idle
0V to 14V
At Higher RPM
0V to 14V

Expected Pattern

Clean switching pattern with sharp drop to near 0V during dwell, followed by inductive spike to 200-350V at plug firing

Known-Good Waveform

Primary waveform shows battery voltage flat-line during coil-off period, then sharp drop to near 0V as coil saturates (dwell time approximately 3-4ms at idle). At end of dwell, voltage spikes to 200-350V as magnetic field collapses, then oscillates and settles back to battery voltage. Dwell time increases with RPM.

Common Failure Patterns

Reduced or absent voltage spike, extended dwell time, excessive oscillation after spark event
Cause: Weak coil windings, internal coil breakdown, or failing igniter transistor in ECM
Related DTCs: P0351, P0352, P0353, P0354, P0355, P0356
Erratic dwell time, inconsistent trigger signal
Cause: Poor connector contact at coil, corroded pins, or ECM driver circuit failure
Related DTCs: P0351, P030X

Diagnostic Tips

2GR-FKS engine uses smart coil control with ECM-integrated drivers. Always check connector moisture at valve cover coils as this is a common failure point. Compare dwell times across all six cylinders for consistency.
