Wiring

Front Left: White/Green (+) and Green/Blue (-); Front Right: White/Blue (+) and Blue/Yellow (-); Rear Left: White/Black (+) and Black/Red (-); Rear Right: White/Red (+) and Red/Yellow (-)

Expected Voltage Range

At Idle
0V to 0V
At Higher RPM
0V to 5V

Expected Pattern

Square wave digital signal at 5V amplitude; 48 pulses per wheel revolution from 48-tooth reluctor ring; frequency increases linearly with wheel speed

Known-Good Waveform

Clean square wave transitioning between 0V and 5V with sharp rising and falling edges. At 20 mph, expect approximately 10-12 Hz (48 pulses per revolution). All four sensors should show identical frequency when driving straight; duty cycle should be 50% ±5%. No signal dropouts or amplitude variation should occur.

Common Failure Patterns

No signal (flat line at 0V) or intermittent dropouts
Cause: Damaged sensor from road debris impact, broken wire in harness near suspension travel points, or corroded connector
Related DTCs: C1201, C1223, C1234, C1245
Weak amplitude (2-3V instead of 5V) or distorted square wave
Cause: Excessive air gap between sensor and reluctor ring due to worn wheel bearing, or debris buildup on sensor tip
Related DTCs: C1231, C1242, C1253, C1264
Erratic frequency or missing teeth pattern
Cause: Damaged reluctor ring on wheel bearing assembly, common after improper bearing installation or impact damage
Related DTCs: C1223, C1234, C1245, C1256

Diagnostic Tips

Toyota uses active hall-effect sensors requiring 5V power supply from ABS module. Test all four sensors simultaneously while driving to identify mismatch. On hybrid models, regenerative braking activity can mask ABS sensor issues - test with regen disabled (D-mode, not B-mode).
