🚨 2014 Acura RLX: Emergency Neutral
The 2014 Acura RLX Sport Hybrid uses an electronic console-mounted push-button shifter, while the base model has a conventional console lever with shift-by-wire.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the parking brake is engaged and wheels are chocked
- For push-button shifters (Sport Hybrid): Locate the shift lock override access point in the console near the button panel—look for a small rubber cap or trim piece
- For lever shifters (base RLX): Locate the shift lock override near the shifter base, typically under a small cap on the right side of the shifter surround
- Remove the override cover using a trim tool or flat-head screwdriver
- Insert a small screwdriver or key into the override slot and press down firmly
- While holding the override, attempt to engage Neutral—on push-button models, press the N button; on lever models, move the shifter to N
- If the 12V battery is completely dead, the electronic shifter may not respond even with the override engaged—the transmission control module requires some power to command the shift
- If available power allows, turn the ignition to ON (push start button twice without brake) before using the override
Shift-lock override location
Push-button models: near the shifter button panel under a small cap. Lever models: near the shifter base on the right side of the console surround
With zero electrical power
The RLX uses shift-by-wire technology, meaning the shifter sends electronic signals to the transmission. With absolutely zero 12V power, the transmission control module cannot command a shift even with the override engaged. You MUST have at least some battery voltage (use a jump box or jumper cables) to get minimal electronics active, then use the override. If completely dead with no jump available, the vehicle must be dollied or flatbedded without placing it in Neutral.
⚡ EV / hybrid warning
HYBRID WARNING: The RLX Sport Hybrid has an electric motor integrated with the transmission. Before towing, consult the owner's manual for the proper tow mode procedure. Generally, the vehicle should NOT be towed with drive wheels on the ground for extended distances even in Neutral, as the electric motor can generate voltage. Flatbed towing is strongly recommended. If using a dolly, ensure the front wheels (drive wheels) are OFF the ground.
