The procedure
- Ensure the parking brake is engaged and the vehicle is on level ground
- Attempt to power on the vehicle by pressing the START button with the key fob nearby
- If the 12V system has enough power, press the brake pedal and toggle the monostable shifter forward or backward to N position
- The shifter returns to center but the digital display should confirm N is selected
- If the 12V battery is completely dead, the electronic shifter will not respond and the vehicle cannot be shifted conventionally
- For completely dead 12V system: the 12V battery is located under the hood; jump-start the vehicle to restore minimal power for shifter operation
- Once minimal power is restored, press brake and shift to N through the electronic shifter
