🚨 2018 Aston Martin Vantage: Emergency Neutral
The 2018 Vantage uses a console-mounted electronic shifter lever with a shift-lock solenoid that prevents movement out of Park without brake application and electrical power.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and apply the parking brake if functional.
- If the 12V battery is accessible and rechargeable, connect a jump pack or charger to restore minimal electrical power—this is the preferred method.
- With power restored, press and hold the brake pedal firmly, then move the shifter from P to N.
- If power cannot be restored, locate the shift-lock override access: look for a small rectangular or circular cap/cover near the base of the shifter console, typically on the left or right side of the shifter gate.
- Use a small flathead screwdriver or trim tool to carefully pry off the override cover.
- Insert the key or a small screwdriver into the override slot and press down or push in (depending on mechanism) while simultaneously moving the shifter out of Park to Neutral.
- If resistance is encountered or the override location is not immediately visible, consult the owner's manual stored in the glovebox or contact Aston Martin Roadside Assistance—forcing the shifter can damage the transmission.
- Once in Neutral, the vehicle can be pushed or winched onto a flatbed.
Shift-lock override location
Small cover near the shifter base on the console; exact side and shape may vary—check left, right, or front of the shifter gate for a removable cap.
With zero electrical power
With zero 12V power, the electronic shifter lock is engaged. The mechanical shift-lock override must be used. If you cannot locate the override or it does not function, the vehicle must be winched onto a flatbed with wheels free-rolling (do NOT drag in Park). Consider connecting an external 12V source to the battery or jump points under the hood to temporarily power the shifter.
