The procedure
- Set the parking brake firmly and chock the wheels.
- Turn the ignition to ON/Accessory position if battery has any charge (do not start engine).
- Locate the shift-lock override slot: it is a small rectangular slot with a cover directly in front of the shifter base on the console.
- Use a flathead screwdriver or similar tool to pry off the small plastic cover over the override slot.
- Insert the screwdriver or key into the override slot and push down firmly while simultaneously pulling the shifter rearward toward Neutral.
- Once in Neutral, the vehicle can be moved or rolled.

With a completely dead battery, you must use the shift-lock override as described. The override is mechanical and does not require electrical power. However, ensure the steering lock does not engage - if steering wheel locks, you may need to jump-start the 12V battery to unlock steering before towing.
