⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Set the parking brake firmly and chock the wheels.
- Turn the ignition to ON/Accessory position if battery has any charge (do not start engine).
- Locate the shift-lock override access: look for a small covered slot or cap near the shifter base on the console, typically to the left or front of the shifter.
- Use a flathead screwdriver or the emergency key blade to pry off the small plastic cover.
- Insert the screwdriver or key into the override slot and press down firmly while simultaneously moving the shifter toward Neutral.
- Once in Neutral, the vehicle can be moved or rolled.

With zero electrical power
With a completely dead battery, you must use the mechanical shift-lock override as described. The override does not require electrical power to function. Note that the steering wheel lock may engage with no power - if steering is locked, you will need to provide 12V power (jump-start) to unlock the steering column before the vehicle can be safely moved.
