🚨 2021 Audi allroad: Emergency Neutral

The 2021 Audi Allroad uses a traditional electronic console-mounted shifter with a shift-lock override slot.

Expert-verified by Chris Hackleman & Jeff Moore — master technicians, 20+ years each.
⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.

The procedure

  1. Set the parking brake firmly and chock the wheels
  2. Locate the small rectangular shift-lock override cover on the left side of the shifter base (driver's side of the shift lever)
  3. Use a small flathead screwdriver or key to pry off the override cover
  4. Insert the screwdriver or key into the exposed override slot and press down firmly
  5. While holding the override down, press the brake pedal (if battery has any charge) and move the shifter to Neutral
  6. If the shifter still won't move, ensure you're pressing the override mechanism fully—it may require significant pressure
  7. Once in Neutral, the vehicle can be moved or loaded

With zero electrical power
With zero 12V power, the electronic shifter may still be locked. The override slot provides mechanical release—press firmly and hold while attempting to shift. If the shifter remains completely locked even with the override, the vehicle must be dollied or flatbedded with wheels off the ground. A jump-start or battery connection is the most reliable method to release the shifter electronically.
