The 2023 Q5 uses a conventional electronic shifter lever in the center console with electronic shift-lock.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and apply the parking brake firmly (or have the vehicle properly chocked).
- Turn the ignition to ON position if possible (press START without brake pedal twice to reach ON/accessory mode).
- Locate the shift-lock override access: remove the small rectangular cover on the left side of the shifter base (driver's side of the shifter assembly) by prying gently with a flat tool.
- Insert a small screwdriver or key into the exposed shift-lock override slot and press down firmly.
- While holding the override down, press the brake pedal (if you have any electrical power) and move the shifter to Neutral.
- If the shifter still will not move, verify the ignition is in ON mode and the override is fully depressed.
- Once in Neutral, the vehicle can roll freely - maintain control with brakes or chocks.

With zero electrical power
With completely dead battery, you cannot activate the ignition to ON mode. The electronic shifter is locked without ignition power. You must jump-start the 12V battery enough to reach ignition ON, then use the shift-lock override. If jump-starting is impossible, the vehicle must be placed on a flatbed with all four wheels up or dollies under the driven wheels.
